alan barton Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 Wow, Bob, those headers look terrific. This is certainly the the trick to improving your skill set in model building - add a new trick to every kit and you'll be playing with the big dogs in no time! The wheels are fantastic too - I built earlier versions of these kits that did not benefit from the printed tyres. I've done white painted driveshafts before but hadn't seen the barber pole stripes before - must be a local rule. I did see a clever rule in Canada once - you could bolt weights onto your chassis to improve weight distribution but they had to be painted white and they had to have your racing number painted on them - if they fell off your car they knew who to fine! Keep up the great work! Cheers Alan

alan barton Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 That's funny! You could hope that the frame is twisted with the left hand frame horn pointing up - then slightly twist the front spindles to the left so that it looks like it's hiking the left front as it turns into Turn 1! Cheers Alan

Cheers Alan That's a thought or maybe it would look like a dog hiking its leg to take a wiz ?
alan barton Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 A fishing sinker in the back corner will take care of that!

Zippi Posted December 3, 2021 Author Posted December 3, 2021 Ok....I'm working on the engine this morning and I'm not sure what this piece is suppose to be. Maybe a fuel filter or a poor excuse for a distributor. Need some help fella's. I was planning on painting the headers a flat white but I'm thinking now I like the look of the flat black.
Painted Black Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 Bob, if your talking about #5, its the magneto. This is the same basic generic engine MPC used in the 57 Chevy gasser and others.

bluestringer Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 Looking good Bob. I like the black headers.

Zippi Posted December 3, 2021 Author Posted December 3, 2021 (edited) Got the first coat of paint on the radiator and the shocks. The hit the springs with the Molotow chrome pen. Still need to put a little black wash on the radiator as well. Edited December 3, 2021 by Zippi 1

Zippi Posted December 3, 2021 Author Posted December 3, 2021 Ok....before I went in this afternoon I got it setting in rubber
alan barton Posted December 3, 2021 Posted December 3, 2021 That's working really well so far - plenty of realism happening with clever use of paint, plus you got four on the floor! Cheers Alan

alan barton Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 Yep, that would definitely add some more colour in the front axle area , a bit more eye candy if you like. The trick is to not make it too much like a show car, because they rarely were, but add enough little details to keep the viewer interested. Red, yellow or blue shocks could all work. Cheers Alan

Zippi Posted December 4, 2021 Author Posted December 4, 2021 I decided to repaint the shocks red and I'll hit the springs with the Molotow pen once again. I wrapped a small wire around a big needle to get the loop in the master cylinder line before I glued it into the master cylinder. I'm going to wait to put the headers on and run the plug wires once I install the engine.
Painted Black Posted December 4, 2021 Posted December 4, 2021 Hey Bob, engine looks real good! I just made a trade for the Pinto version of this kit, once I do an inventory of parts missing I might start a wip.

Zippi Posted December 4, 2021 Author Posted December 4, 2021 Got the plug wires ran. Stepping back and looking at the headers I'm glad I stayed with the flat black. Not only do they look good they are different from everybody else white headers.
