Thanks for the info. Luc!

I love Ferraris but I won't get the California simply because to my eyes it's a ghastly looking beast that screams "Lexus" B)

I would be amazed if the 612 Scaglietti is one of the newer "Sessanta" versions w/the clear roof, 2-tone paint, and the 20" Challenge wheels.

Why another new-tool T1 VW bus when the T2 barndoor has never been done? Both Revell and Hasegawa have done plenty of T1's already. A T2 would be worthy of a new tool, though they also list the Trabant as new and I can't fathom them retooling a kit they've already done.

Looking at the Revell AG site, it appears it may be a straight reissue. Bummer

Trabant limousine???!!! ;)

It's just a German term for sedan, I think. Google the name and it just shows a regular Trabant on the Wiki page.

I have to wonder about the descriptions on two of them; new tooling for a T1 VW bus or Trabant just doesn't make sense. Revell has an old full-detail bus kit, and Hasegawa did one most recently and it's been in current production for a long time. With some variants reboxed by Revell US. Revell AG did a Trabant in the early 90's, I can't fathom retooling a Trabant...reissue, yes...but tool a new one? That's crazy!

Maybe I'm just mad that they haven't reissued/retooled their VW Corrado  A kit that they have the tool inserts, but no way to run them in any molding machines because the company that did the kit had proprietary machinery, and is apparently gone. So no way to reissue, and I suspect they'd have it in China by now if they could reissue it economically.

Too bad about the 612 straight reissue. They'd get a lot more mileage from a few upgrades to interior, wheels, roof to make the Sessanta. They could also use Challenge wheels in their 599 kit to get more mileage from it. But what do I know?:D

The Ferrari world is already questioning the California Spider; at the worst time in economic history since the great depression they've doubled their production capacity for a car that's a "Desperate Housewives" Beverly Hills real estate agent cruiser selling to mostly badge-sluts, many who have never had a Ferrari before. Ferrari owners are already feeling the pain of resale value; their sterling above-sticker resale has evaporated and they're all selling for sticker or far less, especially used.

You're welcome Bob, but the 612 Scaglietti is just a re-box, cuz red Ferrari's sell better then blue ones :D

I'm looking forward to the California as well, although I think I'll wait and see if Fujimi decides to tool one up.

My personal opinion of the car, it's horrid in red. The car looks so much better in deeper metallic colors.

I know Bob has disdain with it. I've read a few articles about it, perused more pictures and it has grown on me.

Anyway, we'll wait and see if Fujimi ponies up or if I'll have to go through Revell for one, or two I suppose.

Bob,

So I didn't hallucinate that VW Corrado kit I saw on ebay once! I'd like to see it back, too, but I find it hard to believe there's much of a market. No one knew what it was when I owned one...

That's be a shame if the tool is gone (or unusable) for good.

I ended up trading a few kits I wasn't going to build to finally get a Corrado. I thought they were too expensive when they came out (IIRC they were $45 retail way back then), and I figured I'd pick one up cheap somewhere...never happened! They go for stupid $$ on Feebay. It's a shame, but from what I'm told the tooling inserts they have are pretty much useless w/o the molding machines they were made for. Corrados are cool, but probably not worth spending any new tooling money on.

Who, me? :P

Yeah, red is horrid on it ;) . I've yet to see any wheels that look good on it.

What's really a *kicker* (rhymes with miss her) is the Cali Spider shares the same basic platform/engine with two much more attractive cars, the Maserati Gran Turismo and Alfa 8C Competizione. We get a model of the Cali. It's just not fair! :D:lol::D

Limousine is the french and official term for a saloon, this term starts from the early day's of motoring. Later on, in the states, they came up with the name 'stretched-limo', which are ofcourse the broadley known majorly white and black caddy's.

Rick, please don't get me wrong, I have no negative purposes with the following statement; but there is another whole world outside the United States. I personally don't like VW, as they are popular because they are popular, but here in Europe, many, many Corrado's have been sold. And still drive.

So it is not hard to imagine there would be a market, a lot of people would love to get their hands on one and rebuild their own car.

Revell even made in 2006 or 2007 a 1/18 Diecast model of the Corrado. So I guess there would be a market for that.

And on the California; Yuk, but I guess the Paris Hilton scene would be pleased with it. Ferrari already let me down when they came with the 612, 599 and the 430. Ever since that Japanese guy took the head on PininFarina, the designs became too cold, too technical.

In my beliefs the 360 Modena is the last beautiful Ferrari, and I am so waiting for new passionate designs. Not marketing-designs.

Thanks for the clarification!

There are a lot of people that say the last beautiful Ferrari was the F355, and I can see where they are coming from. I didn't like the 360 Modena until I saw it in person, then I immediately loved it; my only lingering beef with it are the uninspired headlight units. Hated the 612, mostly because I had seen a CG that looked so real and so good that the production car was a big letdown. Over time I've warmed to it. The car certainly has a presence, and in the right colors is a knockout. It's aged well, newer versions w/the Sessanta package and the monolithic Challenge rims look much better and more complete than the earlier versions. Still shocking to see how big the car is in person. The F430 is okay, but seems like it took the Scuderia for me to really appreciate it. The 599 bugged me to no end at first, those pentagram wheels, the side vent, and the rear pillars just bothered me. Over time I've come to love certain variations on the car; the monolithic BBS wheels, the right color, and it's stunning. I even begrudgingly have accepted the pentagram wheels. There have been some tragicly awful colors/color schemes done for these cars too. I do appreciate it's subtle homage to one of my favorite cars, the 275 GTB. I'm going to build a 599 and 275 in the same color scheme and display them together.

Ken Okuyama wasn't with Pininfarina all that long; 2004-2006. Pininfarina is having terrible financial difficulties today. I would love a return to Ferrari design where there was true beauty in everything they did. The California Spider is a very unfortunate design, for sure. From the A pillars forward it's fine. The rest is a mess. And the whole concept is so un-Ferrari; going after a market that's really not their core...a market well covered by others.

It's just that Ferrari lost it's passionate touch, I didn't loved the 360 Modena directly, but I do like it.

I love the Ferrari's in the 70's and 80's, but just now....Whatever it was, it feels like it is gone.

Ferrari has become a 'Porsche'. A mass-production marketing-brand. Everybody wants them, well, because everybody has them. Everybody can drive them now too. Ofcourse, it would be better for a company to go for mass-production, and get some more bucks, but IMHO it killed the spirit of Ferrari.

The only true ferrari at this moment would be the Scuderia, but the design is just so ugly. Although it is the best looking one at the moment.

Here are two examples of what could've been;

A Ferrari based upon the 599:

And the well-known P4/5, based upon the Enzo. It's even more aerodynamic and faster than the original, without any technical changes.

Bob, I would have to agree that the Alfa 8C Competizione would be a much much better kit to have. That is a gorgeous car. Curves, looks, sound, it has it all.

As much as I would love to see this kitted you are right, it won't be due to the Ferrari name. I wish the companies would just take a chance on a few new tool type kits that I think would do well. So many things you could do with the 8C. After seeing some video of one on you-tube I was hooked.

I'd love to see the Alfa 8C, Maserati Gran Turismo and Quattroporte tooled.

Or how about some contemporary Audis, BMWs, and Mercedes...it's been a long time since anything new from any of those 3 marques (besides the R8 and R10) have been kitted... I'd love to have a 1:24th scale kit of current cars like the A5/S5, A8/S8, TT, M3, M5, M6 (or the regular 3-,5-,or 6-series), or the CLS, CLK Black Series, SL, S-class, etc...
