1954 International Truck Resin

[1964 Impala]

This is my first attempt at resin casting. I must say I’m not too disappointed with the results. Cast made from a die cast cooper tire truck. I have the cab and hood done. A little rough around the edges, with a few sink marks and raised areas, but not too bad. I am also in the process of casting a silver diamond international 6 cylinder for the truck as well. If anyone is interested in obtaining any of these let me know.

Nice job on that. I have cast a Willys pickup cab and and a lot of miscellaneous stuff. It is a rewarding experience when you pull that cab out of the mold.?

I'm very interested in one. Couple of questions. Are you using a vacuum tank for your RTV and are you using a pressure pot for your resin?

I am not using a vacuum tank or a pressure pot. So there are so many bubbles in the casting. I am only 16 years old and work with a pretty tight budget. Here are some more photos of the casting with the bad spots shown. It would definitely require a lot of body work to get to an acceptable finish, although some of the cabs are better or worse than others. I have also molded rims and hubcaps, along with the original silver diamond 6 cylinder for the truck as well if anyone is interested. The one shown in the pictures has only been partially assembled and painted.

You're off to a great start.   

Most adults here haven't tried to make their own molds and cast parts themselves.

Your results will improve dramatically if you use a vacuum pump to de-gas everything, eliminating air bubbles.

Some folks prefer to use compressed air to "crush" bubbles, but whichever you choose is up to you.

Far as the "tight budget" part of the equation goes, you can easily convert the compressor from a junk fridge into a vacuum pump or air compressor; lotsa YouTube videos on how:

For being only 16 years old and on a tight budget you are doing very fine work. Let us know when you plan to start selling these cabs. I'm in for a few. There have been quite a few fire apparatus (what I typically build) built on this chassis and I can't wait to replicate some of them.

I have one up for grabs as we speak which would include the cab, hood, dash, rims/hubcaps, and most of the 6 cylinder engine minus carb and air cleaner. The other one may be listed on eBay soon. Pm me if you are interested. I hope to order more resin soon so production can continue. As seen in the pictures I have been pretty busy with making more small parts. Although it looks like I may have to find an old fridge to rob for its compressor.
