Mike C. Posted January 30, 2022 Posted January 30, 2022 I have been watching these vintage car auctions for some years now and I get more and more shocked every year for the last couple at the ridiculous money these first gen Broncos, Blazers and Chevy pickups are bringing. This weekend at BJ auction one first gen Bronco almost made it to $300,000 and it didn't even have a roof! The first gen Blazers are now into the $200,000 range. Its as if people aren't even looking at the musclecars anymore. This should come as welcome news to those of us that like to build 4x4 trucks. The model companies should be pumping out more and more before this fad inevitably dies and they have us building electric cars or something.
Zippi Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 My wife and I are into the Classic car/truck scene. We have a 1949 Chevy 5 window pickup Restomod. We go to a lot of local car shows/cruise-ins, and I've never seen a Bronco due to the fact that nobody local can afford one. I watch the Market Place and Craig's list a lot and you are correct. I guess about 5 years ago the Bronco's really took off on prices and in fact, truck of all makes and models seem to get a boost in prices. 5 years ago, my 49 would have gone for about $25,000 to $30,000. Now they are going for anywhere from $30,000 to $50,000. Yup....it's getting ridiculous for the buyer but looking good for the seller.
Ace-Garageguy Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 (edited) What's really crazy here is that decent, clean, late-'80s through mid-'90s Chevy and GMC pickups like mine are now in the $10,000+ range. Makes it kinda worth it to re-engine the '89 GMC long-bed I saved from the crusher for $100, and the extended cab '92 Silverado I bought over a decade ago for $2500. EDIT: Not that long ago, these were $1500 trucks, max. Edited February 14, 2022 by Ace-Garageguy
Tabbysdaddy Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I got my 93 2500 about six years ago for $200 and an extra 350 engine I had. It's my work truck.
iamsuperdan Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 I for one am not overly happy about this trend. Mainly because I'm looking for a reg cab shortbox Chev/GMC or Ford. Will be my daughter's first vehicle, and we'll be fixing it up, kind of like I did with the 99 Tahoe I bought and my son now has. But finding anything for less than $5k CDN that isn't a total basket case is proving to be a challenge!

I'd intended to paint the Silverado when I'm finally set up out west, after putting an engine in her here, and trade up to a slightly newer Z71 4X4 to pull a camping trailer. Guess it'll still work, but the dollar numbers will just be higher.
wrenchr Posted February 14, 2022 Posted February 14, 2022 This trend is the reason why I held onto my 01 silverado short bed. The rockers and cab corners need replaced but still decent mileage at only 141K on the truck and it is a 4.8 LS. Brake lines need replaced, just waiting on the weather to break.
Oldmopars Posted February 15, 2022 Posted February 15, 2022 I have a 1965 Chevy C10. All original, but unrestored. No idea what it is worth. I drive it, and it is a rust free NW truck.
