chris chabre Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 so I found this 62 Fairlane promo on Ebay. it has great green paint and trim work. nice clear windows, a clean interior and 4 hole slots on some nice tires, ALSO it has a modified 63 Mercury Meteor tail panel which looks awesome on it. .. the chassis plate has been modified so I'm gonna find another one. The goal here was to build off of the original builders idea while putting my spin on it. here are the before photos
chris chabre Posted March 5, 2022 Author Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) I keep looking at it, do I leave it alone do, do I go mild custom since it has the meteor tail panel, do I turn it into a super stocker... I've been thinking it over since I bought it By the early 60s, customs had a bit of a nose down rake, chrome steelies and raders (the original company spelling) were popular, as were twin pin whitewalls and cheater slicks... I happen to have a 289 from a Cobra with webers, a 4 speed, and the Cobra dress up valve covers... I couldn't NOT mock it up tonight since the kids were playing quietly ... heres where I'm at. once I get a new chassis plate, I'll paint that, clean up, repaint and wire the engine. I plan to paint the engine bay and the rear wheels will either be chromed or black. I added a tach and shifter from my parts box with the appropriate amount of wear on them as well. chris chabre Posted March 5, 2022 Author Posted March 5, 2022 here's what the meteor tail panel looks like.
Oldcarfan27 Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 The way I see it, I like the original build. It's a nice clean job. Judging by the color, it looks like it was recently done. That looks like a Tamiya color. I'd say, leave it as is - ala SnakeFu.
afx Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 (edited) I like what you are thinking! The AMT '67 Mustang/Shelby has a much nicer 289 - if you have one lying around. Or even the Revellogram '66 Mustang/Shelby 289 - I've used it in a few 1/25 scale projects. Edited March 5, 2022 by afx
customline Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 Could you stick a Thunderbolt chassis/engine under that nice body? ?

Ill have to check if I have one in stock, I do have a few 65 Comets I can always steal the motor from. 12 hours ago, Oldcarfan27 said: The way I see it, I like the original build. Nothing Im doing is altering the body and interior other than adding the tach and shifter. The chassis was cut open, the motor was in the engine compartment free floating and crooked. The motor has a bunch of holes drilled into it due to the previous owner trying to get the ride height "right", which I preserved when I set up the raders and twin pins. The wheels and tires are sitting under my survivor vette already and honestly look much better under that 2 hours ago, customline said: Could you stick a Thunderbolt chassis/engine under that nice body? ? I have a number of chassis I can modify. Im just trying to not turn it into a project because if I do, it wont get done haha
chris chabre Posted March 5, 2022 Author Posted March 5, 2022 @Snake45 Heres my 62 Fairlane Im playing with
Bullybeef Posted March 5, 2022 Posted March 5, 2022 I think that you are improving on the original, but that is only my opinion.

Plowboy Posted March 6, 2022 Posted March 6, 2022 I would at least strip it and repaint it. It looks like it's Testors One Coat Lime Ice on the body. It also looks like it crazed or wrinkled on the right fender and door. I have one of these that I'm going to stick a T-Bolt chassis underneath.

Last thing I need is another project wasting away due to time I dont have. Between my FT job, my business, my responsibilities of owning my house, various other projects and most importantly taking care of my kids (Mrs is a 3 to 11 RN on rotating schedule), I already dont have time for myself. Im lucky if anything gets past initial mock up. the paint looks fine in person. Not perfect, but Its also not a contest model. Edited March 6, 2022 by chris chabre 1

So, build it the way that make YOU happy. thats the only way I do things. I do need to find a cleaner chassis plate and I have tried other more modern chassis, but all require modifications. If I can't find one, I can cut a 64 fairlane/thunderbolt version down but I'd rather not 1
Bainford Posted March 8, 2022 Posted March 8, 2022 I like the mods you have proposed so far. Gives it a bit of attitude.

Just enough to remove the economy car status. If it wasnt painted, Id shave the small stuff like handles and give it more of a custom touch.
