Lay Down (Candels in the Rain) - Melanie Safka.  I grew up with this 45 in my house my sisters and I would all rock out to it. My younger sister was a little scared of this song. We had no idea what this song was about, Come to find out years later it was about Woodstock.

Truly one of the most beautiful songs of the hippie era. A favorite of mine to this day. (Another: Donovan's "Catch the Wind.")

ETA: I'd never seen this video before. In some of the scenes, Melanie bears a certain resemblance to Linda Ronstadt.

The Coctones - Musette and Drums. For many years I (and countless others) have considered it some form of sacrilege to try to cover the Cocteau Twins because of how unique they were but I gotta say, this outfit out of Seattle actually comes close. The guy all the way on the left seems to be the Robin Guthrie behind this ambitious project. Still, as talented as these ladies are, they still are not even in the same room as Liz Fraser. One of my favorite Cocteau Twin songs.

Not really the music I usually listen to, but I stumbled onto this today and I can remember this entire album was always on the radio when I was growing up. I guess it got stuck in my head years ago.

My clock radio is set to a "Christian rock" or "Contemporary Christian" station. Not sure why--just a coincidence, I guess. This morning when it woke me up, they were playing several really nice tunes in a row. I have NO idea what these songs were or who performs them. Overall, from what I've heard, the music in this genre is surprisingly good. I might have to actually give them a conscious listen sometime.

Good choice on "Ripples" and the entire A Trick of the Tail album. Lots of good memories from a time long ago.

Although my taste in music has evolved over the years, that's one of those albums that was like a soundtrack to my growing up. It was playing in the background and got embedded in my brain.

Now it's like comfort food for the ears.

I call this a guilty pleasure song because when my friends and I first started out playing music, the big thing for our generation was the punk rock ethos that railed against bands and overindulgent music like this in favor of pure guts and raw, stripped-down type music. Music that favored raw emotion over musicianship. It was more important to us that you really meant it than if you spent the last 25 years studying at the Juilliard. That being said, you gotta admit, this is one great song. When I was a kid, I really liked Emerson, Lake and Palmer. Still do.

This song is THE BEST progressive rock song ever! It's more of a parody/tribute to the prog rock bands like ELP and others. If you can stick it out for the whole 10 minutes, you're in for a treat!

Plus, Ween is kind of a guilty pleasure, too.......
