TransAmMike Posted June 26, 2022 Posted June 26, 2022 (edited) Got this as a Fathers Day present from my Daughter. Owned a 914 2.0 a long time ago so this will be kind of a replica of that car. I always thought a 914-6 would be a super fun driver (the 4/cyl 914 was fun enough except for the lack of power). As was discussed in the past the C-pillar is miss-shaped on this kit so correcting that is the first thing I did. It's pretty close to being accurate. At least its not a glaring issue. I copied a photo, resized it and cut out a template as shown below. The gray that you see is the template. You can see how much of the plastic was removed to get it to an acceptable shape. Any advise for future work on this little guy will be appreciated. Edited June 26, 2022 by TransAmMike 1
MeatMan Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 I built that kit a couple of years ago and it was a bear, but with patience and your obvious eye for detail I'm sure this will be a sweet build.
slusher Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 Good too see you back on another build buddy. I will follow along, I never picked one of the kits up when Hobby Lobby had them.

Do you remember what trouble tyou had with it? I haven't done any more than what I did with the Sail Panel.
Zippi Posted June 27, 2022 Posted June 27, 2022 That's going to be a pretty kewl little build. Nice start there Buddy.

Glad to get the '57 done and had to do a repaint on the Willys. Should get the Willys done today or tomorrow then full go on the 914. 1

Luckily mine was stored in a barn for years before I bought it.
slusher Posted June 30, 2022 Posted June 30, 2022 when I lived in Florida in the 80’s I saw these all the time and mostly young ladies driving them.

TransAmMike Posted July 1, 2022 Author Posted July 1, 2022 Got all the body and floor pan parts off the sprue's, cleaned them up and primed with Autoborne black sealer. My main concerns at this point is the sagging bar between the sail panels and the very flimsy windshield frame. Anyways a couple progress pics 1

bluestringer Posted July 12, 2022 Posted July 12, 2022 Looking good Mike. That Createx red is nice. I'm trying out some Tamiya acrylics, but I'm not going to abandon Createx.

I ordered some online, no hobby shops near me and HL doesn't carry it. I just painted my 71 Duster using it, check out my WIP. It sprays really good and it's easy to thin, but I can't tell much difference in it and the Createx other than it's not as thick and you don't have to be very precise with the thinning. I thought it would be more glossy, but it's not and I'm still going to use the Revive It floor gloss for the clear.

For now I'm staying with the Createx and clearing with the Future I still have. I'll check out the Duster. Working on the 914 right now.
Bainford Posted July 13, 2022 Posted July 13, 2022 Cool subject. Looking good so far. Should look good in red.
