Tabbysdaddy Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 I like to burn my extra sprue so it doesn't end up in a landfill. Just doing my part to save the environment. 4

Then you can melt perfectly compatible styrene as an adhesive and/or body filler. It would sand at exactly the same rate as the molded part and not shrink like putty invariably does. I could use one of them now!, maybe not for glueing small parts but definatelly for filling on custom bodywork like chops and sections where it could work for glueing if you are very careful and have the entire area your using it supported from the other side as I fear the heat could be a problem. Another big plus is no more sinkage worries
TonyK Posted July 3, 2022 Posted July 3, 2022 My brother-in-law has some credentials as a "Master Recycler" and used to collect my bags of sprues to drop off at the recycling plant but years ago they stopped accepting it for some odd reason. Most likely not cost effective. Always felt good to be able to do that instead of just throwing it away. Decades ago I worked for an off road motorcycle outfit that made plastic gas tanks, face guards, fenders, etc. and we used to grind up the extra "flash" and use it again.

Bugatti Fan Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 Burning sprues? Would it not be worse than going into landfill due to the toxins given off going into the atmosphere? Like I said before, unless it can go into the domestic recycling bin it is just impracticable at this point in time.
keyser Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 @Bugatti FanI think it was a joke. I love the smell of sprue in the morning. The smell of victory. ??️
Bugatti Fan Posted July 4, 2022 Posted July 4, 2022 (edited) Keyser, reckon you are right about burning sprues being a joke by Sean. Looking at your location. Anglesey? Yea right! Another joke? Might have been more believable if your name was Glynn Evans. LOL Edited July 4, 2022 by Bugatti Fan 1
Bugatti Fan Posted July 5, 2022 Posted July 5, 2022 Sean, logistically the biggest threat to the environment is world human over population using up finite resources. In ecological terms, we like any other species will become extinct. The question being will it be sooner or later, hence the environmental issues. On a geological timescale humans have been on the planet for the blink of an eye. If the human race becomes extinct, and it will in less than a couple of thousand years at the rate we are going, the planet will sort itself out afterwards. Environmentalists can bang on about 'saving the planet' , but really are they thinking more in terms of humans being able to continue on ad infinitum in a coexistence with other species that we are already losing at an alarming rate. So, believe it or not, I am well aware of current environmental issues, but can see what will happen in the long term. 1
