Cutters, whether for PE or sprue or soft wire, shouldn't be used for cutting things they weren't designed for, 'cause you can easily damage the edges so they're useless.

Useless is mostly in the eye of the holder. Many things commonly discarded by others can be useful to scale modelers.

Modelers and their obsession with this hobby are not generally understood by their spouses, at least that has been my experience.
