Lives were so much simpler, and in a lot of ways more pleasant, when we had 3 major TV networks, a few local networks, 13 channels on the VHF dial, you could always find something good to watch and, as for monthly fees, it was all free.

Free TV wasn't, because you had to sit through mindless commercials that eventually became so long and frequent that programming became unwatchable.
