Out with the lights and into bed at night, pulling the covers up tight so you don't see what's coming during the night, then you hear a creak and your knees start to quiver, your stomach's in knots and you realize you're chicken livered.

"Livered" is a hard word to start a sentence with, but while we're talking about "chicken-livered", remember that "lily-livered" means the same thing.
