dsummone Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 While I’m working on the Midget I picked up this wagon. It’s a curbside kit and I’ve got plans for it. Adding a big block Chev with tri power to it and going to build it in my favorite style, 70s street machine. Dave.
dsummone Posted August 21, 2022 Author Posted August 21, 2022 Started with cutting out the molded in reset end and exhaust. Have the chassis roughed in and ordered some suspension parts from Shapeways.
dsummone Posted August 21, 2022 Author Posted August 21, 2022 The interior is going to get cut apart, the door card moldings are horrendous and I am thinking of replacing the front bench seat or maybe trying to cut the center out and make a foldable center arm rest… I’ll have to see how a floor shifter fits in with the bench seat. The plan is to shave of the body trim and the Chevrolet lettering front and back, the molding for the lettering leaves a bit to be desired. Got my goodies from Shapeways and am very impressed with the detail. I’m going to have to narrow the rear end some and fit the front upper and lower a arms. This one’s gonna be fun. Dave. 3
slusher Posted August 21, 2022 Posted August 21, 2022 Sounds like you have a great plan for your build! 1
dsummone Posted August 21, 2022 Author Posted August 21, 2022 This is the stance I’m going for, undecided on the wheels though.
slusher Posted August 22, 2022 Posted August 22, 2022 I like the first picture the best bu both are really nice. Great stance…

Got the rear end narrowed down and found that the axle housing is hollow, so I can run a rod through it. Will make the alignment of the disk brakes much easier. The front a-arms are going to fit, although I’m not sure I’m going to have enough room for a set of disks up front, more fiddling to do yet. Dave.
dsummone Posted August 25, 2022 Author Posted August 25, 2022 I need to make a decision, no scoop or one of these…. Help please. Dave
espo Posted August 25, 2022 Posted August 25, 2022 The scoop would depend on whether or not it was needed to clear Carbs./ Injectors, or Blower. I think the second and third scoops intake is high enough above the hood surface to catch good clean air flow.

Im leaning that way myself. 1
dsummone Posted August 25, 2022 Author Posted August 25, 2022 But I do kind of like the yellow one. Aaaagh.
slusher Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 If I had to go with one I would go with the yellow one. The last one doesn’t go well with the car.. 1 1
Chevy II Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 I like no scoop. Makes it a real sleeper.. 2 1

Ultimately the design is your choice and should be what you want it to be. My suggestion was based on the basic appearance of your wagon. With the large slicks and the fact that you were looking at hood scoops my impression was you were building a dedicated drag car. Should you be building a street drive vehicle, and everything fits under the hood then forgoing the hood scoop might be the way to go. Should you need just a little extra room then maybe a low Cowl Induction type hood would give you the extra clearance without standing out too much. You're putting some great looking suspension parts on this along with the big block you mentioned. May be a little hard to keep the induction system on a big block in this small of a body under the stock hood, so something may have to change with the hood. Build it your way to look the way you want it to look. 1
dsummone Posted August 26, 2022 Author Posted August 26, 2022 Okay, I think that the consensus is no scoop. The big block is wired and plumbed, so it’s going to come down to if it fits or not. Dave. 1
NOBLNG Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Looking good! ? I am almost always in favour of no scoops on street vehicles, but like others have said…it is whatever you want to do with it. 1
espo Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Good looking carbs. The valve covers look like a different design than most big block Chevy's? 1
Chevy II Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Nice job detailing that engine. Looks like the manifold is a high rise tri-power style. Don’t know if I’ve ever seen one. 1

Yeah the valve covers came from a really poor quality GTO kit I started. Not the best detailing on them but believe it or not, they are probably the best parts that were in that box.
Mopar maniac 74 Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Engine looks great. I would go cowl induction opened in the back only if the carbs won't fit under stock hood. Thinking chevelle style cowl since its a bowtie. 1
Kenmojr Posted August 26, 2022 Posted August 26, 2022 Looking mighty fine. If the carbs fit under the hood and it's a street vehicle, I'd go with no scoop. But you are the artist and it's your canvas. -) 1
