An "incomplete" recording ; a studio instrumental from Summer or Autumn 1967. Chris Hillman took the song to Manassas who recorded a slower-tempo, vocals-included version for their 1972 self-titled album.

I'm keen on this up-tempo take - too bad that it never received a vocal treatment.

Another gem from the  Notorious sessions of mid-late 1967. This is Mc Guinn fooling around with the then-new Moog synthesiser - a 9,000$ instrument ! The Moog was used extensively on Notorious (and to a lesser extent on other Byrds albums) - one of the first "Pop" (Rock) albums to feature the instrument ( The Monkees Pieces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones, Ltd. was released in November 1967, beating the Byrds album by a couple of months ).

Without further ado :

Heard one on the radio the other day, Frankenstein by the Edgar Winter Group, 1973, I believe. The part near the end blew my actual mind with those electric sounds as the way they came through the speakers of the truck was crazy; unlike anything i've ever heard before, around 3:18 it starts, sounds kinda like some space ship thing. The sax part is pretty groovy too.

I should also add another 1973 hit, Hocus Pocus, by the band, Focus. Mostly instrumental except for the obscure yodeling and other human sounds, but in that sense the human voice is used instrumentally, i.e. no words, just sounds. Pretty crazy yodeling though.

Digging up the old instrumentals I grew up with is a great memory trip; Dad loved quite a range of music always had Alpert, Firehouse Five, swing, Kenny Ball, James Last or something playing...

Since a former link expired, just thought I'd refresh this one...     get some toes tappin'  ^_^
