Katsusauce Posted January 9, 2023 Posted January 9, 2023 Of course, the motor first.... Based off the numerous pictures I found on the interweb of the 1914 Mercedes Benz inline 6 aircraft motor. And some ad-libbing....LoL 1
Katsusauce Posted January 9, 2023 Author Posted January 9, 2023 Since almost everyone I've seen has done this car in Kandy Red I decided to do something really Kustom. Painted the body with Tropical Glitz "Seductive Red" over a secret formula base to give it a "bloodier" look. My Roosters approved.....? 20230109_120243.mp4 4
Joe Nunes Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 Nice start! You could call this paint color Santa's Sleigh Red. ? Joe 2
Slotto Posted January 10, 2023 Posted January 10, 2023 nice job on the paint and the details are awesome 1
Katsusauce Posted January 17, 2023 Author Posted January 17, 2023 Just a little more progress.....practically all the chrome parts have been redone with both Alclad, and SMS.
OldNYJim Posted January 17, 2023 Posted January 17, 2023 Love seeing these TD kits get built - looks great so far! Love the paint you chose! 1
Katsusauce Posted January 19, 2023 Author Posted January 19, 2023 Aaahhhhh! ? I should have known better.....kit is from 1997, I should have printed up my own decals. Oh well, I don't want to risk damaging my SMS HyperChrome paint, I'll just leave it. Let it show its age....
Katsusauce Posted January 21, 2023 Author Posted January 21, 2023 (edited) So I decided to soak the helmet it water and the 26 year old decals came off easily. I printed up some new Iron Crosses. Good thing is, the new decals look a lot better than the old ones did. Bad thing is, the SMS chrome paint lost a lot of shine due to me handling it so much. Edited January 21, 2023 by Katsusauce
Katsusauce Posted January 21, 2023 Author Posted January 21, 2023 Almost there, just have to print some decals for the tires.....but I'm lazy right now. ???
Zippi Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 Pretty kewl looking. Great detail work. Love these kits. 1
David G. Posted January 22, 2023 Posted January 22, 2023 An excellent version of this classic kit. Sweet detail work and paint. David G. 1
Katsusauce Posted January 25, 2023 Author Posted January 25, 2023 The Red Baron is pau....see pics in the finished thread. Thanks for following ✌️
lordairgtar Posted January 26, 2023 Posted January 26, 2023 Very nicely done. The engine in the kit, although based on the 1914 MB aircraft engine, is basically a phantom because of the scale of it. 1/24th scale would have that engine towering over the car. But it is a fictitious car living in the mind of Tom Daniel. My take would be to do the real version of the show car, which came after the kit BTW, and put in a Pontiac OHC six in the engine bay. That's a project I have in my mind for the future.
David G. Posted January 27, 2023 Posted January 27, 2023 The finished project looks fantastic! Love the color and finish. The Mercedes emblem on the engine block is a nice touch. David G.
