Looking to get a kit of the Porsche 928 but have no idea on what kit to get. Any advice of the best one to get in 1/24 scale?

The fujimi 968 (i know its not a 928) is semi curbside if i remember correctly. Not too different of an appearance than the 928 so might also be a decent start point. the italeri 928 is ok but the wheels are pretty awful (probably mostly because they are chrome) but the body is ok to my eye but i wouldn't pay retail for one as some of it isn't at the fujimi level

Unfortunately, there just isn't an unequivocally good 928 kit out there. The Fujimi is a very basic curbside with an interior tub and metal axles. It also has fitment challenges on the front and rear fascias. Gunze Sangyo released a 928s kit in the 80s that was available in a Testors box as well. It could be built as a full detail(ish) model with opening everything and engine detail. The fit of those opening panels was exactly what you'd expect from a third-tier Japanese manufacturer in the 80's. The wheels are terrible as well. The Italeri is the one I don't have experience with, but it looks to have a properly-detailed interior, basic engine detail and good proportions. Those 80's Italeri kits are simple and a bit clunky, but can be built into nice replicas. That's the one I'd probably go with.

I wanted the more modern front and rear so I watched the Italeri version until I found one at a price I could tolerate, I know I paid at least $60 pre-covid. I agree that the wheels are trash but they were getting replaced anyway so it didn't matter to me. I haven't started it yet but there aren't any obvious issues with it beyond the wheels, it looks like what you'd expect from an Italeri kit.

If you want an early one or don't really care don't pass up the Revell 1/25 version. It has an engine but will need the wheels and tires replaced. You can typically find them pretty cheap too. There's even a rally version that some very 80s rear window slats.

Might be worth taking a look at this one. It's good value for money:

It might be too big a scale, but from the ones I've seen built up over the last few years it makes up into an impressive model...

best,

M.
