junkyardjeff Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 I am taking a Monogram 40 Ford pickup from the 80s and going to make it into a larger truck,I know the larger trucks had different front sheet metal so this one is going to be a farmers home built truck. Digging through a bag of parts a friend gave me I found a partial frame and two speed rear end from the Lindberg Dodge cab over, need to come up with a truck 4 speed and will add a home made aux trans. Not sure on the bed right now as I would like to build a wrecker but I might try to build a dump bed like that is on a 41 to 46 Chevy truck in a local junkyard.
Gary Chastain Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 Love a project like this, post up so we can watch.
junkyardjeff Posted January 15, 2023 Author Posted January 15, 2023 Have some parts on order and will try to find some frame rails to use to extend the frame so it looks more correct. Unfortunately the partial L700 kit I have was missing one of the frame rails.
J.B. Customs Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 I’m really liking these ideas thinking out of the box
David G. Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 This should be a fun and interesting project to follow, count me in! David G.
Tcoat Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 The sky is the limit when it comes to these farmyard builds. A dump box would be cool and can be as simple as modeling some rough welded steel plates for a home made box. My dad had a home made dump box on a late 40s GMC chassis and cab. I have no idea what model it was though. When I was a kid I used to do hay with a neighbour. He had a late 40s International pickup cab tacked onto and old 1950s school bus frame with a wooden deck on it. It was a beast! Looking forward to see what comes out of this.
junkyardjeff Posted January 16, 2023 Author Posted January 16, 2023 I am going to measure that dump bed this weekend and get pictures of it.
junkyardjeff Posted April 9, 2023 Author Posted April 9, 2023 Finally making some progress, engine is from a 57 Thunderbird and the 2 speed rear axle is from the Lindberg Dodge cabover. Need to order some fifth wheel parts and fuel tanks.
junkyardjeff Posted April 9, 2023 Author Posted April 9, 2023 Got a gas tank and fifth wheel on the way,was wanting dual tanks but they only had one.
David G. Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 Looks like you got it cleaned up nicely. David G.
oldnslow Posted April 20, 2023 Posted April 20, 2023 I used the Opel Blitz as the basis for my conversion , widened the fenders 3" shortened the chassis and dropped in the flat head mated to the Blitz trans , 1
