Altered Ego Posted January 15, 2023 Posted January 15, 2023 I built this one a while ago. My Uncle Frank raced a Vega with this paint scheme and I just made it into a Pro Stocker. 4
Altered Ego Posted January 15, 2023 Author Posted January 15, 2023 Taking inspiration from dragcarz and his awesome Shirley Shahan AMC Pro Stock Hornet, I built this during the Chili Bowl Nationals. I used the MPC Pro Stock Series Vega chassis and interior. The Gremlin body and engine are from the AMT kit. This required surprisingly little surgery on the chassis. Most of the work was done behind the rear axle centerline. The interior required the most work shortening the tub 10" between the driver seat and wheel tubs. The Gremlin dash required a little work to fit the Vega tub, but everything else worked rather easily. Even the Vega side windows fit with no alterations! I do have a few detail items to finish up, but happy with the result. This has me thinking about a Bob Glidden Plymouth Arrow. 3

Jeff I have also found that the Vega parts fit very nicely under other short wheel base bodies. I have two Sox & Martian projects started using the Vega as a donor kit

I’m working on the 1978 dodge challenger starting with a 3-d printed body from a e-bay seller. This is my first attempt at a 3-d so far I’m finding the plastic on the hard and brittle side. After cutting off the mirrors I won’t be opening up the hood. The second project is the 1979 Omni starting out with a monogram charger snap kit
Stan A Posted January 16, 2023 Posted January 16, 2023 As the owner of an Ex Pro Stock Colt race car, this thread caught my eye. It would be cool to see your projects on Mopar Pro Stocks. Here is my Colt at Indy in 1980 and the second picture is an Alderman Pro Stock Daytona I built 20 years ago. Darrell signed the roof. 3
Altered Ego Posted January 16, 2023 Author Posted January 16, 2023 MW Elky, Both will be very cool, I am intrigued by the Challenger. StanA, nice work on the Daytona.
catpack68 Posted January 19, 2023 Posted January 19, 2023 Nice work!?I bought several Grumpys Vega kits to use the chassis for a Glidden Pinto and a Sox and Martin Omni I plan to build
Altered Ego Posted January 19, 2023 Author Posted January 19, 2023 Those sound cool, be sure to post them here!
TransAmMike Posted January 20, 2023 Posted January 20, 2023 The Gremlin is cool but I really like the Vega. Great job Jeff!!
bytownshaker Posted January 24, 2023 Posted January 24, 2023 Two Nice builds, I especially like the Gremlin. Also the MPC Firefighter Mustang II works well for a chassis and interior for those compact era Pro Stockers.
Altered Ego Posted January 28, 2023 Author Posted January 28, 2023 Very cool! I am hoping MPC will re-do the other cars in the Pro Stock Series. I would like to build a few Dusters.

A 1972 cuda 2 & 1 with stock and a pro stock option would be a automatic good seller
Altered Ego Posted January 28, 2023 Author Posted January 28, 2023 Absolutely, I want to build an S&M car, a California Flash car and a Vanke car.

Yea and a mopar missile , and a Billy the kid demon , and Melvin yowel . I would also think that the pro stock pinto would be a hot seller and they already have Dyno don licensing 1
Altered Ego Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 Here was a project that sat on in the cabinet for 20 years before being completed during Covid. I had a tough time deciding how I wanted to paint the body before deciding to make a Plymouth version of the famed Rod Shop Pro Stocker. 3

I would like to see a remake of this one. I’ve sacrificed many of these for parts over the years, and the inventory is low
Altered Ego Posted January 29, 2023 Author Posted January 29, 2023 I would like to see Moebius step forward and do some 70-71 Pro Stock kits. Their detail and quality is such that these would be some amazing kits. Maybe a Maverick, a '69 Camaro, a '70 Camaro, a Cuda, a Challenger and a Duster.

Love the Vega also! Someone needs to do a Monza conversion. 1
Altered Ego Posted August 8, 2024 Author Posted August 8, 2024 Inspiration for this series of cars came from Scott Eriksen's incredible Reid Whisnant Duster build, iangilly's great Motown Missile and as always, MW Elky's many superb builds. All of these builds started with the stock front suspension and floor pan. I grafted the rear clip and suspension from AMT's 1966 Nova Pro Street kit. I also used the rear package tray in place of the rear seat on all of them. All of the hood scoops came from Competition Resins and the decals came from Slixx.
Altered Ego Posted August 8, 2024 Author Posted August 8, 2024 First, is the Wally Booth Rat Pack Camaro. I used the big block from the Time Machine Chevelle kit. The intake is the tunnel ram from the Pro Street Nova and the carbs and velocity stacks are from the Old Pro Nova. The lightweight seats came from the Moebius Nova Gasser as did the ladder bars. The Centerline front wheels are from the Double Dragster kit and the rear wheels and tires are from the Copperhead dragster kit. Headers and front tires came from the parts box. 1
Altered Ego Posted August 8, 2024 Author Posted August 8, 2024 Nest up is the Butch Leal Camaro. This one uses the same big block combination except that I used the carbs and stacks from a Moebius super stock kit. The front Cragar wheels also came from the Moebius kit. The rear tires are from the Pro Street Nova kit and the rear Cragars are from the parts box. 1
