What are the carbs on the Revell - '29 Model A Roadster?

Recommended Posts

Re: kit 4463.  I like how Revell assumes everyone knows what the engine, and the carbs are, and I don't know what I'm doing or know anything about Fords.  Building version B with the 3 carb setup.  If I knew the carb brand and model #, I can search for pictures.  If you have done the carb linkage, fuel line, please post pictures.  I assume there is a system where there is a cable from the gas pedal to the engine, then there are linkage rods and photo-etch parts to drive me crazy with.  Regarding the fuel pump, the kit has a non-stock looking fuel tank, I know my Chevy pickup has the fuel line going through a big hole, so is there an electric pump in there?  Or is there a mechanical pump on the engine?  All I really want to do is fab a clear glass bowl filter for the firewall, but need to be realistic about what is at each end.  I also should know what the engine is, I know hot rodders put Chevy SB in, should be accurate on the firing order for the spark plug wires.

Might as well ask about the transmission too.  Looks like an automatic, only two pedals.  Dare I ask about linkage from the shifter to the transmission?

Well, the engine in that kit is a Small Block Chevy.  The stock carbs were likely Rochester.

Transmission appears to be a GM TurboHydro, not Powerglide.

And, of course, the standard firing order is

I have the kit in the stash so I can check more out if needed.

It looks to me like the carbs are indeed rochesters.

The transmission is a 700R4. HaHa, I just looked and I put the manual shift pattern decal on my shifter.🥴

Most mechanical fuel pumps have a filter between the pump and the carbs, but I don’t see why it couldn’t be mounted on the firewall. Just more plumbing? Electric pumps would have a filter in the tank and possibly another before the carbs? What the common setup on hotrods was back in the day I am not certain…sorry.

Edit: Each carb would have its own filter at the fuel inlet too, similar to this.

If your Chevy pickup is carbureted then it will have a mechanical fuel pump on the engine, if it's fuel injected it will have a pump in the tank. From the factory.

The '69 I had before, there were saddle tanks, and they put an electric pump under the floor of the cab, and there was a cover plate where the pump was on the block.  I removed the tanks and that pump with a bunch of rubber hoses, and put a mechanical pump back on the engine.

Excellent information, great picture of the carbs.  To add to my above comment, I know there is a filter in the tank of my '68, and I have a Nissan steel filter before the carb (my mechanic says those filters catch smaller particles better than the clear plastic ones).  Thank you!
