David G. Posted February 7, 2023 Posted February 7, 2023 Good masking work! That kind of masking is tedious but I don't mind it. I think I thrive on tedium actually. David G.
ModelcarJR Posted February 7, 2023 Author Posted February 7, 2023 Thanks, Jeremy, Csaba and David! I appreciate your comments! The tedium that I enjoy is foiling the body. Rubbed out and foiled! 3
ModelcarJR Posted February 8, 2023 Author Posted February 8, 2023 Thanks, Carl and David! I appreciate your comments! Engine is done. added plug wires and a fuel line. Scratched a coil as one was not included in the kit. I may try to find another air cleaner as this one had a bad attachment point the sprue. I'll add heater hoses during final assembly. I'll also add the oil filler tube then. 2
ModelcarJR Posted February 8, 2023 Author Posted February 8, 2023 Finished the interior. I tried to improve this bucket as much as I could. I added three decals for gauges under the dash as they were not included on the decal sheet. I added some foil to the doors and tried to make it as small as possible. The door handles and window cranks were almost non-existent so I added some PE I had although the door handle may not be correct as the actual car has pulls in front of the armrests. But this interior has no armrests unless those are supposed to be armrests on the front of the door. I also added a turn signal lever to the steering column. Thanks for looking! ? 2
David G. Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 The engine came out nice. Good job on the interior, it doesn't look like they gave much to work with. David G.
espo Posted February 9, 2023 Posted February 9, 2023 Great looking interior. You mention that there weren't any arm rests on the door panels in this kit. The kit interior represents a custom interior package. The arm rests, such as they are, were a small ridge running the length of the door with a small area that would also be used as a door pull to close the door. The second row of chrome trim you added is running along the top edge just to give you an idea of its location on the door. The gauges you added to the consol look just like what Chevrolet had as an option.
ModelcarJR Posted February 10, 2023 Author Posted February 10, 2023 Thanks, David! Good to know! How do you know and remember all this stuff? Did you work as a designer at Chevrolet? Even if I knew all this stuff I sure wouldn't remember it. Thanks for your help! Well, its messy, but I got the chassis, interior, and body together. Just one catch - I have to put the engine and other parts that I knocked out back in place. Now, where did I put that engine puller? I may leave the fan off since you won't be able to see it anyway inside the shroud. Thanks for looking! ?
ModelcarJR Posted February 10, 2023 Author Posted February 10, 2023 Well, that wasn't too bad! I'm sure its not the way that AMT or Round 2 would put it together but its on wheels and everything went back into place. I had to shorten the radiator to close the hood but all the parts, including both radiator hoses, the fan, fan shroud and all the pieces for the firewall. I may leave the heater hoses out as I feel pretty lucky to get all this back together with few problems and no scratches in the paint. I do have some foil to repair but that will be pretty easy. I also had to substitute a piece of acetate for the wing window on the left side as the kit piece didn't have enough of a bottom lip or flange to mount it and it was short. Old mold, I guess. I think I can finish it up from here. Thanks for looking! ? 2
Kenmojr Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 When it's completed you should post pictures of the AMT and Revell kits side by side. Love what you doing here...
David G. Posted February 10, 2023 Posted February 10, 2023 That's a bummer about all the extra work to get it together, but that's what we do, I guess. The end results look great though. Well worth the effort! David G.

When little boys were playing Cowboys and Indians or Army I was playing with toy cars. Somethings in life have never changed, I guess.
ModelcarJR Posted February 11, 2023 Author Posted February 11, 2023 Thanks, Ken, Bill, David and David! I appreciate your comments! David, if you like 1969 Camaros, you'll like my next project. A Revell 69 Camaro Z-28 RS/SS in Tamiya Candy Lime Green or as I like to think of it, Frost Green with a Lime kicker! I wanted to see what the color looked like and I have five 69 Camaros that I purchased in a group of kits so - why not. I had to get it painted today as the weather is going to turn cold and rainy. So this will give me something to rub out and foil while I watch the Super bowl. Thanks for looking! ? 1
TransAmMike Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 The '67 is looking great John and that '69 should be great looking also. I got the '69 from my Daughter at Christmas but it's still boxed up. Of that gen Camaro the '69 is my favorite. Great job as usual?
slusher Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 Nice color on your 69 John, love the 67by the way!
David G. Posted February 11, 2023 Posted February 11, 2023 It looks like you're off to a great start on the next one! David G.

Mine was Hugger Orange with Black interior, I added the factory spoilers and redid the suspension on it. I had also owned a '68 for a short time but didn't have the money to do what I wanted with it, so I flipped it. The Revell Z-28 kit, with the blue car on the box, seems to me to be the best one to base a build off of.
ModelcarJR Posted February 12, 2023 Author Posted February 12, 2023 Thanks, David! the 67 is finally done! I had some problems with the decals. I was trying to use the white ones and tucking the front of the long stripe on the hood inside the hood edge and it ripped. I couldn't fix it so I then used the silver ones. I didn't try to use the Micro Sol this time and I think that helped but it took me all day to get these decals on. But I think I like the silver ones better with this blue. I also managed to get the left wing window re-installed with the kit piece. Since the interior is in, it will sit on top of the door panel better while gluing it in to the A pillar. I drilled out the molded in headlights and added clear lenses. The taillights are one piece chrome that have to be painted with Stop Light Red. So here are some photos. No engine photos as I don't want to disturb the decals at the moment. Thanks for looking! ? 3
David G. Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 That is one great looking Camaro! I agree that the silver decals are a better choice than white. I think the white stripes would have worked well if the interior was white too. David G.
KWT Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 Oh wow... this is looking awesome. Those silver stripes are pretty sweet with that blue Happy accidents and all that lol
ModelcarJR Posted February 12, 2023 Author Posted February 12, 2023 Thanks, David and Jeremy! I appreciate your comments! This is an update on the 69 Camaro I wanted to do next. The paint really didn't work out well and I guess that is not a color that I should be using. I tried a number of different colors lately and this one just isn't w.orking out. Perhaps my base coat wasn't pristine enough for the candy Lime Green. In any event, it is too blochy, light and dark spots. So its going into the oven cleaner and I am moving on to something else. Thanks for looking! ? 1
espo Posted February 12, 2023 Posted February 12, 2023 I agree with everyone else on how the silver stripes turned out. Working with decals that cover such a large area can be tricky and sometimes setting solutions can work against you on something like this. Are you staying with some shade of green on the '69? Besides looking at a color chart if you're stay with a stock shade, the Camaro offered both a dark green and a color called Rally Green that was lighter and brighter. Should you think about a nonstock color the options are endless.
