You did a nice job with the thirty six parts in the kit, the added details and excellent finish really make it stand out.  It's always nice to see a finished Chaparral model.  Supurb model.

Dang Pierre , you've taken a very nice little kit and turned it into a real masterpiece !  Definitely the best build of this kit I've ever seen , congratulations !

Would be the perfect project for you Bob. You would swear to do OOB and end up building a complete chassis, engine & detailing. You know, just like a certain Road Runner! ?

Wow, you finished this one quickly, Pierre, but with the same perfect results. Paint is smooth as ever and not a hint of a brush mark. Love the details you added like the driver. The chapparal gave chevy fans something to root for back in the sixtys when they were pretty much out of the game in Nascar.

Thanks Mark. It came out surprisingly good. Now taking on the 66 Le Mans winner (not the one who should have won). Brushing on black...scary!

No problem for you Pierre. But black would be the toughest paint to brush on.

Very nice model Pierre. The Chaparral always reminds me of those race cars from  " speed racer " Another great build. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Pierre,

I agree on all of the above: you did a great job on this simple old kit to make it look a FABULOUS model!

I especially like the washing you did on the rear panel, makes it look like PE mesh - amazing.

I looked up my stash to find I have an old (1992) issue of this kit with decals that have not aged well. But it shouldn't be a problem, those decals are pretty simply to print on my own. Your build will definitely be a template to me for achieving a better result!

By the way, I also found a Chaparral 2C kit by Imai. Supposedly a re-release of an old LS kit from the 60's. It has even less parts... and much too small tyres. But the body does look good! It's this kit: https://www.scalemates.com/kits/arii-11123-1200-chaparral-2c--129594

Thank you Thomas. I had more luck with decals as my kit was a 2004 issue and the decals were fine. I look forward to your posts on your two Chaparral builds.

I do not know what to say other than what has already been said.  This is one excellent piece of model-building craftsmanship. I really like this particular model of the Chaparral, not too crazy about the later vacuum cleaner designs.  Jim Hall did it right with this one and so have you in the recreation.

Very nice 2D. The build is so clean, it really looks 1:1

So you used Vallejo, what color? I also see you brush paint, even more impressive!

I have not had luck sanding/polishing acrylics, what technique do you use.

I use a lot of Vallejo on my aircraft.

Thank you for the kind words Mark. As simple as this kit is the body was cast in such a good way that it was easy to make a good replica of this great race car.

Indeed I brush paint everything (because we now live in a condo). It took a while to get it right and the key is to do a lot of thinning and build up in multiple thin coats to achieve a smooth finish. If the body was prepped right I just need to do a delicate 2400-3200-4000 wet sand of the primer (Vallejo waterbased urethane) and 4000-6000 + Tamiya fine & finish compound of the clear coat (Vallejo acrylic). I don't touch the color coat. After decals I seal with Holloway House Quick Shine (my new Future). The Vallejo white I use 70.820 Off White (over white primer). I find it looks more natural and period correct then the pure/bright whites commonly used.

Regards, Pierre

I love Chaparrals and you did a great job with this model.  I built this one a number of years ago box stock, and it is still one of my favorite models.

Thanks Jim. Same here, such a beautiful race car

It looks awesome! Now I gotta find me one :)

Got mine on E-bay, waiting patiently for a reasonably priced sealed box.

Bonus picture, with the big dog of 1966. Luke or Dark Vader?

I apparently missed this build.  Excellent result, Pierre, and a nice addition to your collection.

I read somewhere that getting a license to model Jim Hall's cars is very reasonably priced, but Mr. Hall insists that the models be very accurate.

I think Ken Miles would have said Darth Vader for sure :)
