Zippi Posted April 12, 2023 Posted April 12, 2023 I didn't have a WIP going because it only took me a few days to complete it. I built this for a Group Build on YouTube. Painted with Tamiya TS-29 Semi Gloss Black on the body, landing gear was Vallego Oily Steel, Tires are Tamiya TS-82 Rubber Black, and the wheels were chromed with a Molotow pen. The color in the back of the engine was Testors Red and Orange. Fun little kit. 1
Tcoat Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 The panel lines are clearly excessive as the real SR-71 had none visible.

It was also a bit more aerodynamic than this "egg". I read that when SR-71 was cold (sitting on the ground or flying subsonic), the wings (fuel tanks in them) leaked fuel. They only sealed up when flying supersonic, due to the plane's skin heating up and expanding to seal those gaps. If that is the case, there would have been some visible seams, right? 1
stavanzer Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 Great Build, Bob! I've seen the real ones fly at Kadena AB in Okinawa, Japan. They were like no other plane I've watched. 1

It sort of looks like a flying stingray, but even more better. You wouldn't think it it was designed and built over 50 years ago. I built a Testors 1:48 scale model of it about 30 years ago (still have it) but it is a bit tired looking. 1
peteski Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 What I think is neat about the eggplane is that they correctly depicted the unusual main landing gear arrangement, and the engine exhaust looks fairly accurate.
Ace-Garageguy Posted April 13, 2023 Posted April 13, 2023 (edited) Cool little model...but... I don't remember them as being that short. Musta got rained on and shrunk. Guess that's what they meant by "shrunk works". Seems about as logical as the typical internet "explanation", anyway. Edited April 13, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy 3

Hasegawa "egg planes" are cute caricatures model kits of famous aircraft. They are not scale models.

I actually know a fair bit about the aircraft, but if I went into how and why, I'd have to kill myself. Edited April 14, 2023 by Ace-Garageguy CLARITY 1

That might be all well and good, but I was confused by your "Seems about as logical as the typical internet 'explanation', anyway. " Statement. From what you post I know quite well how you feel about the general idiocy and ineptitude of the current world's population, and that the Interwebs are full of stupid and incorrect information. Your statement to me seemed like you were serious (yes, there was an emoticon, but it didn't seem to fit the statement). That's the problem of indirect communication; Sometimes the meaning of someone's written statement is missed.

Yup. Anyway, Mr. Zippi did a nice job with his, and I appreciate the shot of all of 'em together. They look like a flock of cute little robot bird-things. I'd enjoy living in that alternate reality.
SpikeSchumacher Posted April 14, 2023 Posted April 14, 2023 Bob, did you leave you Blackbird in the dryer cycle longer than recommended again? ???? Any and all "puns" fully intended... Cheers 1
