If I buy a print setup could I create the body ? First you need a model of the print which really is one of the more difficult parts of it you need to learn CAD or surface modeling Fusion 360 blender 3DS Max solid works inventor these are all programs used for making 3D models though some are CAD which is more constraint driven exact dimensions and geometry then there's surface modeling like blender which you're kind of just creating the outer shell of the object So once you have a 3D model then you can print it, but you either make it easy to print or learn to print really well Edited June 3, 2023 by Texas_3D_Customs
jeffp60 Posted June 3, 2023 Author Posted June 3, 2023 Thanks Charles. Maybe I should rephrase my question to "can anyone print a 68 I H Scout 800 body?".......
MrObsessive Posted June 3, 2023 Posted June 3, 2023 Understand that if you try and create the body on your own, it can easily end up being a hobby within itself because you'll be essentially building the car "digitally" before you can build it physically. I don't know of any files out there that are printable. I've not seen any, but it's searchable by simply typing in the name of the car, followed by "3D files".

While there are a couple of bodies out there (not the correct year) at least one of them have a comment that the body is not printable when reduced to scale. That's one of the issues with finding printable files, some are good, some not so good. If you can find a printable file, you can send it to Craftcloud or another service to have it printed. The problem is finding a file that will print, and your Scout looks like a unicorn. 1
jeffp60 Posted June 4, 2023 Author Posted June 4, 2023 Thanks everyone for the interest and comments. I found a printed one on ebay. From "ukraine ". Yea,that's a no ! Pretty much unchanged body until 1971, but mine was the single cab.

I can vouch for that seller, the quality of his work, and his ability to ship and deliver in a timely manner. He's in a part of the country not affected by the war.

I can vouch for safety buying from ukraine. Apart from feb to august last year there has been little difference to delivery times before the war. It takes about 3 weeks from ukraine to the uk so maybe 4 for usa

I found the quality execptional and the wait wasn't as long as I'd expected.
Tom Geiger Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 Another happy customer! I bought his 78 Corolla Deluxe wagon to build an old car of mine. I’m about to buy his. Volare wagon. Great product, delivered faster than I had anticipated.
jeffp60 Posted June 4, 2023 Author Posted June 4, 2023 Too much cost anyway,$50 body $20 shipping,$25 for scout 2 kit, then adapt 1/24 to 1/25 kit. yikes ! This is guy on ebay,eBay, a lot of bodies ,etc. DiOlex Production
av405 Posted June 4, 2023 Posted June 4, 2023 Well that's the cost of going down the 3D/resin/aftermarket route. You either pay $100 for a full kit or about the same to purchase a body + donor kit + extras. 1
Texas_3D_Customs Posted June 5, 2023 Posted June 5, 2023 Also understand that unlike the box kits these aren't injected molded by the thousands in 30 seconds, yes I worked injected molding for a short bit. The time put into printing cleaning shipping is a lot more than what Revell puts into a kit.

I just can't afford or justify over $100 for a model that may not even work. I'm not angry ,upset with printer or anything. Disappointed that no one makes a kit for the original scout

Disappointed that no one makes a kit for the original scout I completely understand your frustrations I generally don't do full kits I'm making an exception for the semi stuff because those are expensive anyways but 3D printing is difficult to do big things like that and you'll see plenty of posts people showing artifacts on bodies I can do them pretty good but you know if I'm going to devote a $3,000 printer for 12 to 14 hours to print a full kit mostly just the body it just doesn't make sense to sell it for 30 bucks in fact that's a net loss probably. Like I said I'm not trying to bash you or anything just saying there's there's a reason that they demand those prices unlike injection molding you can't pump out a thousand kits in a couple days. 2
mikemodeler Posted June 10, 2023 Posted June 10, 2023 (edited) Robert Burns has a Facebook page- Too Many Projects- where he lists the various bodies he offers for sale. They are 3D printed resin and depending on the type you choose, can run from $60-130. The body shown here is done in his lower resolution white resin but it is quite clean and very accurate. If you really want a scale model of a Scout half cab, this might be an option. You will still need an AMT Scout kit (of the second generation) to supply the interior and chassis but well worth it if you want it. I realize that the price might seem high, but by the time you buy a printer, figure out how to print and buy the resin, you could probably have bought several of these bodies. jeffp60 Posted June 10, 2023 Author Posted June 10, 2023 Thanks mikemodeler , I'm checking the site now. It is impressive work for sure. Have to check vs scout 2 and argue with myself about cost and effort ?.....
