redzed Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 how can i detail the hood vents, they are molded into the hood ? they need to be silver or chrome , i don,t think my hand is steady enough to use a brush i suppose i could tape around them but a decal with solvent would be nice. thanks ,frank
Nacho Z Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Frank, do you have any Bare Metal Foil? That is what I used on mine.
redzed Posted July 2, 2023 Author Posted July 2, 2023 dam ! i never even thought of that but don't have any at the moment- thanks
Shark Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 If you want to go the extra mile ($$$), Model Car Garage has a photo etched set for that kit.
redzed Posted July 2, 2023 Author Posted July 2, 2023 i ordered 1 this morning but i have a spare hood so i'll practice on one with foil are either of these foils prefered ?
Nacho Z Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Frank, I've only used BMF so I can't answer for the Hasegawa stuff, but I bet it would be fine too.
Gramps46 Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Frank, I owned a '63 and the hood vents are not bright and chrome shiny but more of a stainless steel hue FWIW..
redzed Posted July 2, 2023 Author Posted July 2, 2023 (edited) HA ! thanks maybe the vents from model car garage is the way to go but ill have to experiment. pics are the real thing. Edited July 2, 2023 by redzed added to original
espo Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Another idea for the hood crates. #1 Mask them with Tamiya masking tape or an equivalent. #2 Paint your body color and clear before polishing the finish. #3 Unmask the grates and either lay down some Bare Metal Foil or a chrome type finish paint and allow to dry overnight. #4 use either a thinned flat black or a panel line type paint to fill in the pattern on the grates.
peteski Posted July 2, 2023 Posted July 2, 2023 Hasegawa foil is actually very thin flexible plastic (vinyl?) film. It will stretch slightly when coaxed into depressions (like the ones in the grill we are talking about here), but after short period time, it will relax, and come back out of the depressions. It is best used for simple shapes (like smooth moldings). BMF on the other hand, once it is formed and pushed into the depressions, will stay in them.
