Ok fellows....this is where I'm at with the 55 Nomad on stripping the paint.  I first tried the 91% isopropyl Alchol, Then the Super Clean, and last but not least the Easy-Off oven cleaner.  The before pic is before I used the Easy-Off and the after pic is after 2 rounds of the Easy-Off.  Maybe one more round of the Easy-Off and then start sanding.  The body is starting to feel a little soft so this will be the last round.  I am trying my best to save this but man is this one fighting me.  If this doesn't work I guess I'll have to drop back and punt ?

Before I put the body back in the Easy-Off for the last time I did a quick mock-up to make sure everything is still where it should be.

I have always had success soaking the body in brake fluid for stripping paint.

Dave

Yup.  I'll see what happens with the last round with the Easy-Off oven cleaner.

I have always used brake fluid - the cheaper sorts. Completely submerge the model and leave for a few days.

I also filter then store for next use.

I hear ya.  I may not have to go that route.  I think the Easy-Off is doing the trick.

Looking good, Bob! I more application of Easy-off for about 24 hours, then hot water and a toothbrush and you should be ready to rough up with some wet sand paper and be ready to go with a new primer coat. I'd use a gray primer first before thinking about a white primer. If your going with a maroon color you really don't need a white primer. Good work!

I'm just glad I was able to save the body.

Oven cleaner works well enough. I had an old built up '62 Ford I took apart, the body paint came off with CSC.. the interior, nothing worked, so I primed and painted over it. Brake fluid may have worked. Sometimes I have scuffed the paint with #220 grit, lightly. This lets the stripper medium work more betterer.

Since my Magic Chef dehydrator took a dump, I need another base. I see them on eBay. I ran across my wiring schematic and made some copies of it, so I would like to get that going. I made the surround from 10" chimney flashing, pop-riveted at the seam and to one of the trays. My brother made a shallower one using some sort of 1/16"-ish plastic he found at work.

I got my thermometer at a supermarket, fit it permanently to the lid, it runs horizontally. I notched the surround so it drops in nicely.

Thanks man.  Yeah, I'm going to check on the body this morning and see how it's doing but I suspect that most of the paint will be gone.  The Easy-Off seem to do the trick.  Pretty kewl Dehydrator you made.

Ok....pulled the 55 Nomad body out of the Easy-Off this morning an gave it a good bath in soapy water.  I did a light sanding with 400 grit to help remove what little paint was left.  Once I finish sanding up to 12,000 grit I think it'll be good to go.  I'm a Happy Camper.

Nice save Bob! Looking forward to seeing this one finished. I may have missed it earlier in this post, but what manufacturer are those 5 spoke wheels from?

Thanks man.  The resin Torque Thrust wheels & tires come from Jay's on Ebay.  I airbrushed them with the chrome from a Molotow pen.

Great job Zippi, I’m glad you kept at it! I knew you could save it.

Thanks Roger.  Now I just have to get through this next paint job.

Body is looking much better now. Suggestion if you haven't already. Lightly scribe the door jams and such to get any remaining paint build up so those details aren't lost when you paint the body. That also goes for the body lines on the roof as well.

Thanks man.  Yup, cleaned everything out good.  I'll be going over it one last time before I get out the airbrush.

Great save on that body, way to stick with it.

And I REALLY hope the next paint job goes well for you.

Thanks Kyle.
