mark 23 Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 So does any kit come with or does anybody cast or 3D print them? I'm doing a model of my brother in laws truck that has these on it They have the blue dot on them.
peteski Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Blue dots were owner-added accessory (not a factory installed option). The were small blue glass "gems" in a thin chrome bezel. You drilled out a hole in the taillight lens, and installed the blue dots. They are barely visible on the 1:1 car unless the taillights are illuminated. In 1:25 scale they will probably be around 0.030" in diameter. That is small. You could try to simulate that feature by drilling the kit's lens with small drill bit and installing a piece of clear styrene. Then dab a small dot of transparent blue paint on the clear styrene. Or even simpler: paint a small dot of chrome paint (like from Molotow pen) over the taillight lens, then when that dries, dab a dot of transparent blue paint over the chrome dot.
OldNYJim Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Replicas and Miniatures sells a little pack of blue dots - just drill out the lens and drop one in there! Or, what Peteski said ??
Straightliner59 Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I have some small, blue MV lenses, and some that are gem-cut. I got them years ago, at a model RR shop, just for this purpose. I can't recall who made the gem-cut ones. Maybe Grandt Line or Detail Associates. Maybe neither!?
Straightliner59 Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I found an okay photo of a pair of the gem-cut blue glass in a Hasegawa Buick I slammed...
espo Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 Check a craft store in your area that caters to Jewelry making. They often offer some very small glass "stones" in various colors, one of them being blue. 1
Fat Brian Posted August 3, 2023 Posted August 3, 2023 I've thought about getting a small bag of blue sequins and using the little leftover tabs from the center hole for blue dots. 1
