Got a large metal file? Try sharpening the edges.

Always good to buy a new sharp set. Be sure too wear safety glasses when cutting..

I use the Dremel cutoff wheels. Wear safety glasses and be careful, the axle can get pretty hot. If you don't have that much to remove you can deepen the holes in the wheels a bit too.

shopping.jpeg.72152ba209e64d7adf49e9f2da488146.jpegI use a compound side cutter, they make quick work for most steel axles. The one shown is from Harbor Freight. It's not that nice but I'm using the image as it gives a better visual of the function and design. There's a variety of designs that work the same way. You should be able to find better quality cutters at any hardware store or online. Generally you get what you pay for with these tools. I have a couple of different sizes for cutting various diameters and materials. The one I use most I purchased through work from Grainger but don't remember the manufacturer, it's not a common tool brand and it's worn to the point I can't read it any longer other than made in the U. S.
