Dave Van Posted September 12, 2023 Posted September 12, 2023 EVERY time I ask a question about a wandering package I get 'Working as designed' which is the TRUTH!!!! The system is designed in a manner that package routing is a 50/50 deal and that's OK......As long as a package is moving once every 3 days.......that is viewed as a good thing. The fact it may go in a circle......well it is keeping the work force active.....and after all that is the goal....no idle hands.......working right or wrong. I theory with the vast majority of packages having the BIG barcode at the bottom of the label, mis routing should be around 0.01%.......but by the number of people here that report packages going on LONG vacations in seems more like 40% of packages make on wrong turn or at least stall for days. My most recent was a package shipped FROM West Virginia, then VA, next to PA then to NC, off to SC to Six Mile Creek were it sat for 3 days before heading back to me in West Virginia. NO way this was working as designed for a systems whos goal is accurate fast delivery........but is for a system that just wants all hands busy. Thanks
Rodent Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 How about...... un-bashing? Due to a terrible addiction to buy all the cool stuff I see on this forum (looking at you @hgbben), I bought a Tamiya Volvo 850 wagon on eBay and ordered the 850 T-5R update kit from ZoomOn Models in Hong Kong. I asked for tracking, but I was unaware that also meant that they would require a signature. I am lucky to be able to WFH on M-W-F, in office T-T, but USPS tried to deliver my package on Tuesday when I was in the office and the spousal unit had a substitute gig. My local Post Office is horrible in the customer-facing department, so I went online to try to reschedule delivery online on a day I would be home rather than stand in line and have my package thrown at me. For some reason, the system wouldn't take the tracking number on the form so I couldn't reschedule redelivery online. We have a new carrier on the route, and I caught him on Wednesday and explained the situation. He is a really nice guy, and he wrote himself a note to redeliver it today. I saw him NOT come up to the door today, so I caught him when he returned to his LLV. He remembered what he told me and said that he asked "him" (keeper of undelivered packages?) to put it out for him today, but had forgotten to double check if that actually happened. What happened next almost made me fall over. Robert said that he was near the end of his route and would go back to the Post Office (about 2 miles) when he was done, get my package, and deliver it. That is exactly what he did. I tried to give him a tip, but he refused. BTW: this little resin, PE, and decal transkit is hella cool and they threw in a pair of aluminum fart mufflers and some Honduh/Acura badge decals as well. ZoomOn has other some cool stuff and I will be ordering more from them.
Mark Posted October 6, 2023 Posted October 6, 2023 And yet I placed an order with Spotlight a week ago today, and it was at my house on Monday. It's hard to wrap your head around how they can do a great job half of the time, and a lousy job the rest of the time.
Rodent Posted October 7, 2023 Posted October 7, 2023 I have had nearly zero issues with the post office, both shipping and receiving. When I used to sell on FleaBay, packages that I dropped off on Saturday before noon would sometimes be delivered on Monday on the other side of the country.
slusher Posted October 8, 2023 Posted October 8, 2023 I have had my shares of trouble in the past but lately the mail has been much better. The biggest issue lately is shoving packages that are a tight fit for the box. That’s just the sub driver. Nothing damaged so far so good.
MrMiles Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 i got one going on now, something arrived at my local post office, 20 minutes later it says business closed, delivery next business day....except im not a business, and i doubt they got it pulled from a truck, loaded into one for delivery, and failed at my apartment, which is apparently now a business on ups, they sent something from Indianapolis all the way to washington state, then back to nj. apparently thats the fastest route. its now day 10 now and still not delivered
TarheelRick Posted October 10, 2023 Posted October 10, 2023 Just took a four-day trip to visit some relatives out-of-state. I was expecting some packages so I went to the local PO and had my mail put on hold until I returned. When I got home I checked my email and saw all the packages had been delivered to "the front reception area of the Post Office" (USPS's message). Went over this morning to pick them up and only got one package plus a couple of envelopes. When I questioned the lady she became slightly belligerent and said that was all I had. I told her of the email message. "Do you have the tracking numbers?" "Not with me." "Well I can't help you." Went home brought up the emails, printed them off and went back to the PO and showed them to her. "Let me go get the Postmaster." They rummaged around under some tables and finally found my other two packages and more mail, one was my electric bill. Makes me wonder what would have happened to those other pieces of mail if I hadn't forced the issue on the packages. I know they would have eventually found the packages, but would they have just as easily found the missing pieces of mail?
TonyK Posted October 11, 2023 Posted October 11, 2023 At the post office yesterday and was surprised how friendly the 2 employees were at the counter......and efficient. There were a few people in front of me that were the problem once they got to the counter mostly not properly prepared to do what was needed.
