This is the kit that got me first started into model building and will be my first post on this forum. It was and is also a way for me to remember my first (beloved) car which was a 1991 Ford Thunderbird. This car was a glue bomb and a enamel brush paint massacre. The car also had both A pillars crushed. When picking up this hobby again a year and a half ago after a 10 year pause, I had to perform life saving measures to save this car. I took and have no pictures of the former car for good reason, lets just say it had the box art wire wheels mounted the same way as the art and was finished in Testors enamel turquoise brushed on by a teenage me. I stripped and worked this body as good as I could. I also basically did my first model restoration which was painful. This car was finished with the flash still on the tires because I was that wanting to be done with this build.  I have since purchased eight more Revell 1989-1992 Thunderbird SC kits. I am a absolute freak for these cars, as the trained eye could tell by my name on the forum. I do intend on finishing four of the kits to the most professional standard I can achieve...we will see...

This car is finished in Testors Deja Blue and has Krylon Primer on the plastic. The interior was, once again, hand painted with gloss and matte black. The under body is bad so we will not discuss. Under hood was hand painted with Testors silver, Tamiya black..etc... This build was supposed to be a factory fresh 1992 Thunderbird SC, but, I added some of the decals from the box and used a paint that is not Dupli Color or at all factory. I was shooting for the Twilight Blue Metallic that my 1:1 Thunderbird was finished in. I have since picked up the Ford color in Dupli Color and a 1991 kit that will be built in that color.

This car also has "custom" suspension as during the restoration the previous glue had mangled key components.

If you read that all, skimmed or even just viewed my post, Thank You and have a great day!

I'm not a professional modeler, writer or photographer...working on it though! I also build for FUN and for ME and am constantly trying to improve!

Back in the dinosaur days, KayBee Toys had a clearance on the original issue of this kit and its Cougar variant. I bought a bunch of them at $1.99 each and had fun with them. Maybe it's about time for Revell to reissue these kits and some of their other early 90s kits.

Excellent work! I think a restoration is much more difficult than building a brand- new kit, and also more satisfying. I love this body-style of T-Bird! The only one I don't care much for (in the 80's & 09's), is the 87-88 non-Turbo Coupe. That roof line & rear 1/4 window.....

That sounds like a great time! I really hope Revell does, I think 2013 they re boxed the 1992 Cougar XR7 as a Lowrider. I would like to see both Thunderbird and Cougar re issued along with the other great kits from that time, I think there is modelers who would buy.

Yeah it was intense, but was very rewarding at the end. I am posting my 1987 Turbo Coupe today, I really bought the kit on sale at a hobby shop, I like the car now after building but the 89-97 is where its at for me.

Thanks for the kind comment!

Nice save and restoration.  The stripes look good on these, never thought of that.  I love these cars too, as I had a 95 LX, 4.6, white with blue guts.  Really enjoyed that car and still miss it to this day.

You'll fit in here just fine! Your builds look really nice..... There was kind of a leap from the Fox chassis cars to the MN12s, I like them both!

Hey thanks for the kind words! Huge leap from 88 to 89, completely different direction. Both are great vehicles.

Nice build. Currently have 3 wips for the '89, '90 & '92 SC. I remember seeing an front end resin update to '97 specs for this. Can't find it now. Wish I had got it 3yrs back when I found the '90 35th Anniversary edit.

Thanks for the kind words! Oh man if I could get the 97 resin front end I would be pumped. I just looked and cant seem to find one. If you find it let me know. 97 was a nice looking car!

The T-Bird/Cougar/Grand Prix were all the same concept of product, and they're all very nice kits. Definitely time for another round.

Nice build on this one.
