george 53 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 You guys can say what you want about this guy, but I'll NEVER buy ANYTHING from him again! What he charges for the resin garbage he sells is a crime! Are things SO BAD with his buisness that he sells JUNK to his customers just to make ends meet? The pieces of garbage he charged me for woulda been THROWN OUT by a reputable resin caster, You guys do what you want, BUT I"LL NEVER TRUST THE GUY! And I will warn others about him, Nice personalities DO NOT make up for shoddy workmanship, or flat out rippin people off!!!
george 53 Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 Awww Dave, If ya knew me personally you'd see I'm not a bad guy. But I can't stand to see a friend ripped off! I CAN be outspoken at times, and I feel THIS is one of them! I bought his 55 Pontiac, it too was an an assembled promo. HE OFFERED the resin interior, for the 12 bucks, so I trusted him and bought it. He NEVER took it out of the box, which was my bad, caz I shoulda MADE him do it! What I got ,when I got home, was a NASTY,STICKY,misshaped chunk of resin WITH HAIR IN IT!!! It was at least 1/4 in thick, and NASTY! The dash was full of pinholes and totally worthless! It wasn't even SQUARE to be able to use it! If I can save a fellow modeler the loss of his hard earned money, I'll try. I don't care what anyone says, a lousey vendor SHOULDN'T be in buisness!
Aaronw Posted March 13, 2009 Posted March 13, 2009 What I don't get is he owns the rights to the Johan kits. Why doesn't he just work a deal with one of the many reputable resin casters and offer real resin re-pops of the Johan kits. This just seems like a no brainer but instead I keep hearing stories about Okey skulking around shows selling indescriminate resin stuff. I'm actually surprised no enterprising resin caster hasn't started popping copies of Johan kits on their own, the prices some of the kits get on ebay go for would make all but Modelhaus quality resin cheaper.

There could be many reasons, but the fact is everybody is losing out. Granted, JoHan kits aren't all that great, but JoHan kitted many unique subjects with nicely done bodies, and that alone means people will buy them...but only so many people want '55 Plymouth leftover bodies.

BIGTRUCK Posted March 14, 2009 Author Posted March 14, 2009 I don't doubt that the resin items from Johan are sometimes on the poor side , I've passed on many items such as interior tubs and boots , but I see these items at shows in person and wont buy if it needs more work than its worth...I should have posted pics with my earlier post...Harry asked if I was happy with my purchase...sure I am , but again I bought this in person and was able to check it out....resin this time around looks pretty good too.... heres the resin items this resin looked pretty good this time around....maybe someone else is casting the parts now or just do a better job than before , that I cant answer... sorry about the picture quality ...I'm still getting things re-organized since the flood last year.....so I'm a little slow..
Jantrix Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Was I the only one who read "Another offering from Johan," and was waiting for the rimshot after?

evilone Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 Can't you use a 55 thru 57 chevy for a engine and frame donar if you wanted to open the hood?If i remeber right they were almoast the same except for some of the body parts.
MrObsessive Posted March 14, 2009 Posted March 14, 2009 The frame from a '55-'57 Chevy might work with some tweaking but the engine is a whole 'nuther kettle of fish! Dave from Model Car World makes a '55 Olds kit which he'll sell you the engine separately if you'd like (I have one). It's in 1/24th scale though but it won't be that noticeable in this model.

I wish there was a reliable way to get one of those other than at a show. I would have some fun turning that into an old CHP cop car. CHP seemed to love Oldmobiles until the 70s.
mr moto Posted March 16, 2009 Posted March 16, 2009 The Modelhaus sells a complete '56 Olds interior for $12.00. Sounds like a solution to the problem if you ask me!
Slim Louis Posted March 26, 2009 Posted March 26, 2009 I bought the two Pontiacs, 55 and 56, I forget which one is the 4-door and I felt they are both decent hard plastic bodies. Have tires, hub caps, plastic "platform" for a chassis chrome and glass. Passed on the interior, (you know I build race cars! lol). Thought it was kind of expensive at the time but I knew that going in. No complaints. The Olds body looks to be about the same quality! Slim

I'm right there with you Manuel! I picked up two '56 Olds(bodies,Glass, and Chassis') that were missing the dreaded interiors and chrome pieces, all of which I paid $12 apiece for.... Every piece that I am missing is in Modelhaus' Catalog, so they seem like a No-Brainer Route to me....
