Camaro lover Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 I’ve been looking for a Toyota MK3 Supra that has a motor included with the kit. I see plenty of Hasegawa, and Fujima kits but they are all curbside. I know Tamiya had a kit too but it’s been discontinued. Not sure if that one was a curbside as well. Does anyone know of any kits that had a motor included ?
stitchdup Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 the tamiya is your best bet. theres loads to pick from on ebay if you dont mind ordering from overseas or you might find engine bays for the fujimi and hasegawa kits from a 3d printer. theres a few out there to choose from, including tube frontends for drag cars
Fat Brian Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 I don't think any of the MkIII kits are full detail. However, the hood on the new Hasegawa kit is molded to open so it's pretty easy comparatively to add an engine to because it's already got the windshield cowl which is the hardest part to make on your own. I've got one I'm going to do it to myself.

peteski Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 LOL! Every time I see "motor" mentioned in this thread I think you are looking for a small electric motor to motorize your model, since many older Japanese curbside cars kits could be made into running toys. I guess we usually use the word "engine" to describe a scaled down plastic power plant in full-detail kits. No harm done - just me confused.
Can-Con Posted December 29, 2023 Posted December 29, 2023 I,ve seen this kit in 2 boxes. Fujimi kit but again, out of production.

The one I have is 3d printed but the Tamiya MkIV kits are cheap enough you could buy one for just the engine without hurting too much.

Thanks ?
Spottedlaurel Posted December 30, 2023 Posted December 30, 2023 (edited) @Camaro lover Tamiya's recently reissued Toyota Soarer has the 7M engine, it's a proper full depth one with transmission, not just the top half on a plate. This is the older issue. By coincidence I happened to take a photo of a 1:1 example in the summer: Would be period correct for the Supra. I also have one of the very nice Hasegawa versions, reading the above has got me thinking about doing the same thing. I'll have the 7M spare as I'm looking to drop a Celsior/LS400 V8 into my Soarer. The only thing I suspect the Hasegawa kit won't have is a LHD dashboard. If you were desperate to build it that way I could let you have one from Tamiya's older Supra Mk3 kit, as that has both LHD and RHD. Might not be quite as accurate as the Hasegawa, but would be a starting point and perhaps some of the detail could be swapped over? Edited December 31, 2023 by Spottedlaurel
Camaro lover Posted December 31, 2023 Author Posted December 31, 2023 I appreciate all the help gentlemen. My goal is to recreate every vehicle I’ve owned since I got my license in 1971. I regret letting the Supra go. Mine had the 7M GTE single turbo engine. For a while I’ve been thinking the Supra would be on the hard to attain list but now it is definitely doable. Thanks for the heads up Nigel on the Tamiya Soarer. 1
