junkyardjeff Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 I am putting the Alantis/Revell Caddy engine in a AMT 40 Ford and would like to make it stock and like it was just plucked from the junkyard so are there any kits out there with a stock 50s Caddy engines. The AMT threw carb intake fits so this one will most likely be put together with it and aluminum valve covers but would like to build a stock looking engine in the future.
Mark Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 The only 100% stock ones are in the Revell/ex-Monogram '59 Cadillac kits.
Ace-Garageguy Posted January 1, 2024 Posted January 1, 2024 All the first gen Caddy OHV V8 engines from the '49 331 cu.in. version through the 365 and early 390 (through 1962) are very similar visually. The very best totally stock one in kit form comes in the Monogram '59 Eldo. 1
junkyardjeff Posted January 1, 2024 Author Posted January 1, 2024 I found one that I think is the optional engine from the 59 Elcamino that has stock valve covers so at least I will have those.
junkyardjeff Posted January 1, 2024 Author Posted January 1, 2024 I think the one I have is from the 59 kit as its slightly larger then the Revell.
bobss396 Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 The AMT '49 Ford has one to consider, but lacks a stock intake and exhaust manifolds. The newer Revell '49 Mercury also has a Caddy engine with stock appearing exhaust manifolds. It builds up nicely. You can always swap a 4-barrel intake onto it. 1
stitchdup Posted January 2, 2024 Posted January 2, 2024 theres one inthe entex/imai/various other brands kit of the 58 caddy. the valve covers i it have the cadllac script on them, its 1/24 scale. i dont know if its accurate or not but given the roof never fits i'd guess its not 1
junkyardjeff Posted January 4, 2024 Author Posted January 4, 2024 I am going to use the Revell engine with the AMT 3 carb intake on this build, might look for a stock looking air cleaner that will cover all the carbs.
Lunajammer Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I know a stock intake is the hang up here, but as a point of conversation, the Revell parts pack Caddy engines are plentiful for around $10. The intake rails make it a very distinctive hot rod addition but I wonder if the 4-carb intake could be modified to stock?

Yes, modding the 4X1-bbl manifold to a single or dual 4-bbl would be pretty easy, actually. Sand flat most of the existing carb flanges, remove whatever's left with knife and chisel blades, form new carb flanges from .020" sheet stock. 1

I happen to have one of these that I picked up just to have it, so what are the two transmissions included with it? Edited January 4, 2024 by NOBLNG

junkyardjeff Posted January 5, 2024 Author Posted January 5, 2024 I ended up making that 4 carb intake into one for a single 4 bbl. 1
