TopherMcGinnis Posted January 8, 2024 Posted January 8, 2024 I bought one of the AMT Coke '72 Chevrolet C 10s off Ebay. It was missing the engine and wheels, so it made a good candidate for a custom build. A friend gave me a '91 Lumina NASCAR kit, so I thought the chassis would be cool under the truck. I started cutting the engine compartment out, got down to the last 1/8" and the body broke sending my knife into my left index finger. Thus the name STITCHES.
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 8, 2024 Author Posted January 8, 2024 I cut 5/8" out of the bed to fit the chassis. The razor saw came in handy for that. This is by far the most customized building I've done. I'll gladly accept tips/critiques along the way. 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 8, 2024 Author Posted January 8, 2024 I used some sprue goo to fill in some low spots. I'd like to do all of the filling and sanding prior to priming. One thing that helped me I think is the fact the bed is attached to the cab. 4
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 8, 2024 Author Posted January 8, 2024 I'm not putting bumpers on this truck. I found a rolled valance leftover from a '64 Olds 442 kit. I think it will look good with the front valance. 6
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 8, 2024 Author Posted January 8, 2024 Thank You. Here he is sitting on all 4. I'm digging the stance. These are the wheels. 10
IanH Posted January 9, 2024 Posted January 9, 2024 Those wheels rock! So, what modifications did you do to the finger, or is it getting fixed "out the box"?

Zippi Posted January 10, 2024 Posted January 10, 2024 Oh man...gotta watch when using those knives dude. I cut my finger years ago when I was into RC planes. Looking good so far. Great stance on the ole pick up. 1
Keef Posted January 11, 2024 Posted January 11, 2024 Loving this one so far! Where did the wheels come from?

TopherMcGinnis Posted January 14, 2024 Author Posted January 14, 2024 Bouncing between kits while waiting for glue to cure. I got the lower bed corners rounded to match the rear valance. Worked on a few low spots. I need to get the body tabs/mounting squared away and figure out the interior and engine compartment roll bars. 1
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 19, 2024 Author Posted January 19, 2024 I walk past him every day and think of what I want to do next.
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 20, 2024 Author Posted January 20, 2024 Working on body mounts and figuring out the interior. 2
TopherMcGinnis Posted January 21, 2024 Author Posted January 21, 2024 The rear valance is roughed in, gotta do some finish sanding and I think we'll be real close to primer time. Got the body mounts sorted and the stance is still looking good. I plan to put hood pins in the 4 corners of the hood and make it a lift off style. I'm still fitting the interior tub from the C10 kit. Both firewalls couldn't exist in the same spot. This is where I want the exhaust to exit. 6

You sir have inspired me to break out of my comfort zone! 3
