dust collectors Posted January 27, 2024 Posted January 27, 2024 Having been sick this past week I thought it'd be a good time to share a few builds finished before joining the Forum. I built this one for one of my best buds to put in his newly finished home office. Thanks for looking. 6
stavanzer Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 Man, I love me Some Landy's! Fantastic Build! Good Show. 1
David G. Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 Now that's how a Land Rover should look! In addition to the excellent build, the mud and dirt are very convincing, well done! David G. 1
dust collectors Posted January 28, 2024 Author Posted January 28, 2024 Thanks guys, this was my first go at weathering and it was a lot of fun. The hardest part of this build was deciding how to build it since Land Rover have so many variations.
'70 Grande Posted January 28, 2024 Posted January 28, 2024 Excellent build! I'm just starting this kit and have been doing a bit of 1:1 research. The kit's instruction book says to paint the engine block a metal color but I've also seen 1:1 pics showing a large variety of different engine block colors. Was curious if anyone has any info about 1:1 engine block colors for Land Rovers of this era? In some of my research, it almost looks like the factory painted the engine block in the same paint color used on the body... is that a possibility?

I did a ton of research before starting this build (that was a large part of the fun) I found images of the engine painted a variety of colors but went with a metallic steel color I happen to have. These are really cool vehicles. The next one I build is either going to be a short wheelbase or a truck. Youtube was a good reference source as there is no shortage of people restoring these things. Hoping you share your progress on here, I'd love to see your approach.
ncbuckeye67 Posted January 29, 2024 Posted January 29, 2024 That looks amazing! I won this kit at a show last year, and I can't wait to get into it. The club I'm in has a build-off, and my challenge is to build a weathered kit. I may have to reference your build for inspiration.
Bainford Posted January 30, 2024 Posted January 30, 2024 Nice Landy. Great job on the weathering. Very convincing.
Bugatti Fan Posted January 31, 2024 Posted January 31, 2024 Really nice model of that world famous Mud Mobile.
