Lenny, I feel your pain. ?. (You saw my paint job ?)  Like I stated elsewhere, if you're building it as a scale model of a particular special 1:1, great....have at it. You've got to do the work and it's probably worth the effort. Otherwise....?

Those photo-reduced dash guages are a bit thick and if you are planning to use them you need to remember to remove the molded-in detail you're going to replace before you paint the dash. That's exactly what I'm gonna do as soon as I finish typing this ?. Thanks for reminding me!

Yes, I removed the molded in detail, still looks thick. Maybe next time I should dig a little deeper.?

Yeah, some dashes work better than others, Len.  As far as I know, those B.M.P. reduced photos are the only option for this and many other kits. Until better is available, I'll keep using them. Some kits supply all the essential details on the decal sheet now but the older kits can benefit from B.M.P. stuff.  Better'n nuffin ?

The Coupe

I thought I was getting close to being done with body mods but there was one other thing that has been bothering me. The trim around the windshield was thin and uneven, practically non-existent in sections. Had to fix that up. It also bothered me that the window 'glass' sat far back from the edge of the opening. Look at the bottom by the wipers.

DSC00096s.jpg.6d7086733da46aa01a7ca86350006672.jpg

Removed the existing trim and the wipers, would have to convert them from vacuum assist to electric anyway as I don't think the Hemi will pull enough vacuum to keep things clear.

I next took the windshield and annexed it from the rest of the 'glass' and cut it down to fit inside the opening.

Then the opening was trimmed out with some .060 half round, probably a little too big but I only had .060 and .040 was just too small. I will file some away before I'm done. Added the center bar and hope that it doesn't blow away in a strong gust before I get the windshield set. ?

Nap time is my new favorite time these days. I didn't appreciate it when I was a 4 yr. old. I sure do now ?.

Yeah tell me about it.

OK, time to wake up and see if the glue dried.?

Threw some primer on it and I guess it's an improvement.

The Woody

The Woody has been getting a bit neglected lately so I started working on fitting the interior.

I suppose I got a little ahead of myself by assembling the chassis as now I had to adjust things to fit. Here I've laid out the components. That's the Ford chassis floor on the right.

DSC00118.jpg.6b8df9945f3301cc9bf0b57d299326dd.jpg

The interior from the 48 Ford Woody is a bit too long and extends into the engine compartment. The foot-board extends forward and will interfere with that powerful flathead six.

First thing I needed to do was remove the top of the wheel tubs from the Plymouth as the Ford interior had it's own. And cut off the front of the floorboard.

DSC00123.jpg.fccd718f6ae4306382b76dd5ab6aa261.jpg

I remove a 5.75 MM section off the back of the removed section of floorboard and reattached it. Then had to trim the side panels to match.

DSC00125.jpg.75bac590b92e6120579d3d9e82902d83.jpg

Also needed to remove part of the tunnel from the Plymouth chassis to clear the Ford floor as well.

DSC00126s.jpg.df07f0c604b43eef0dd2462ab38d7638.jpg

Still had interference issues with the transmission hitting the interior floor. Sound familiar Jim? I solved this two-fold. First by trimming a bit on the inside of the tunnel and second by tipping the front of the floor-board up slightly. No-one will ever know unless they have big feet.

After this I decided to check the fit of the firewall and the dashboard. Turns out the firewall was too short to cover the gap from the cowl to the floor-board and I needed a spacer to take up the slack. As they say, waste not want not, the piece I cut out of the floor earlier will work fine to bridge the gap.

So now we wait for the glue to dry. Guess that means it's time for another nap...after cake, it's the wife's Birthday?

The Woody

Have not made much progress on the '41 Plymouth's of late, not sure why. Maybe it's the curse of the dreaded pine-cone that's putting me off working on them. Actually it's more like the prospect of having to do all that wood-grain that is giving me pause.

Anyhow, time to move forward. Decided on doing the interior seats of the woody in a dark brown. Found some Behr "Deep Espresso"spray paint that actually looked pretty close to what I was thinking. They call it satin but it has a bit too much gloss as far as I'm concerned. Will need to tone it down.

Prepped the inner panels in a light yellow in anticipation of the wood-grain.

And been making some test patches to figure out the color of the wood. I'm leaning towards the one on the left. WDYT?

They are both quite convincing, Len, but the darker, "browner" one on the right is my choice. I also think a mid-'60s Pontiac made of wood is a fabulous idea! ?  There's a guy in Hampton that built a car with a boat for a body....well....never mind ?

How about a Magnum Woody????

Anyhow, I guess I really need to come up with two contrasting colors as the panels are generally darker then the surrounding wood.

The neat thing about replicating wood like found in vehicles is that you can really personalize the look.

Too late for Maggie, Len, but my next long roof project is a '53 Country Squire ?. Flintstone didn't give me any decals, either ?. Who makes decals like that?

I just went through this thread. I have a thing for these kits and have collected a box full of parts and rebuilders. If you need anything, just send me a pm. One of the rebuilders I picked up had a flathead V8 in it. I thought that was an interesting engine to put in it. To my surprise, it had a complete chassis under it from the 40 Ford pickup. Fit like a glove and looked like it came that way from the factory.

A friend of mine built this.

That is very useful information about the 40 pickup chassis and is well received,  thanks!

I assume that was a flathead Ford. Interesting choice as the kit 6 is a flathead. Wanted to keep the style I guess.

I have a lot of 40 Fords lying around will have to match one up, thanks for the info. You never know what you learn at this place.?

I like what you did with the windshield molding Len. If I can find a set of wipers to replace the molded in pieces, I just might do something similar. Why not…I’ve come this far, why quit now??
