oldcarfan Posted March 20, 2024 Posted March 20, 2024 I unpacked another moving box and found these two trucks. I built them probably 20 years ago and they've been in display boxes since then. The paint jobs were better than anything I've done since. The first is an unpainted eBay glue bomb that I repaired and painted. The chrome was bad so I soaked it in bleach and then painted it with Krylon Dull Aluminum and some clear gloss. The black truck was a ModelHaus resin kit that I cut off the bed on and then used parts from an AMT 53 Ford truck for the frame and bed. For the bed mounted spare I carved a hole into the left rear fender and used aluminum foil to fill the hole. It was painted with Duplicolor primer and Krylon gloss black. The new issue trucks with the separate bed should make a stepside conversion easier and the width and length on the 53 truck bed and frame is perfect for short bed 1960 truck. 12
leafsprings Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 NIce job on these! Like the tutone job on the Styleside and the side spare on the Flareside. I agree, the separate cab and bed on the new issues will make conversions much easier.
ncbuckeye67 Posted March 21, 2024 Posted March 21, 2024 Great looking duo! I love to see the old original issue kits. There's a gentleman in my club that brings a few to every meeting. I always look forward to seeing what he's going to show us.
stavanzer Posted March 22, 2024 Posted March 22, 2024 What Great Build ups! I really like the Fender Mount Spare on the Black truck. Both are great. Good Show.
Rattlecan Dan Posted April 2, 2024 Posted April 2, 2024 Both very "straight up" realistic and nicely done.
oldcarfan Posted May 18, 2024 Author Posted May 18, 2024 Had to go to another town and since my wife was looking for birthday party supplies, we stopped at their Hobby Lobby. They had just one of the new 1960 F-100 kits on the shelf for $34.99. I didn't know they were going to stock this kit. Anyway I bought it for the 40% sale price. I hate buying from them, but I hope the sale will be a part of encouraging AMT to do more retools of missing in action vintage kits and maybe even to do variations of this kit. I wouldn't say no to 57-59 versions. Since I've already built one of the original kit, I may try to shorten the bed on this one and make a lowered hot rod version.
