roadhawg Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 There's something about it that reminds me of Ford's automatic retractable seat belts.
george 53 Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 Maybe It just me Guys But my wife owned a MK-VIII for about 8 years and even though it was a few years ago, I don't remember the doors being THAT wide. Them are some LOOOONNNNGGGGG arsed doors! Don't think I'd trust 'em to roll under the car like that onna rainy/snowy day.
FujimiLover Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 http://www.disappearing-car-door.com/ I love your signature! LOL!
Clay Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 That cannot be safe. It doesnt look like there isnt any structural support. And I know I would not put my kids in that.
FujimiLover Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 (edited) I just now watched the video, and wow! That would save from alot of door-ding's you get in the parking lot. Some careless woman basically threw her door open and nicked my car's paint. Tiny little scratch, but still made me mad. And this was just after I had it fixed recently! That is a very clever idea. As far as structure is concerned, I'm sure they designed it to be safe. Is this a real concept or is this animated? Would love to see it up close and personal. Would be best idea for a convertible. Didn't BMW have a model way back when that had a half door which went down? I think it was a Z4 or something like that? Z3? Edited March 28, 2009 by FujimiLover
oscarmaier Posted March 28, 2009 Posted March 28, 2009 That's kinda cool, but what happens when it's raining. It would soak your interior. Still cool looking though.
GOTH KUSTOMS Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 That would be kool, but if it got stuck open, you would be stuck...
MrObsessive Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Didn't BMW have a model way back when that had a half door which went down? I think it was a Z4 or something like that? Z3? Yup! They sure did............it was called the Z1 from around 1988-91. ..................And yes I have a nice pristine Revell kit of it. Will I build it? Ain't sayin' yes, ain't sayin' no------------just mebbe!
VW Dave Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Those disappearing doors are interesting, but I'd be more impressed if someone did working Kaiser Darrin-style 'pocket' doors in scale:
Modelmartin Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 Those doors are almost as long as the doors on Mark Gustavson's abortive Riviera custom of a few years back!!!
horsepoweraddict Posted March 29, 2009 Posted March 29, 2009 I remember this car it was concept. If remember right I believe they sold this car at the barret jackson a few years back. It is a neat concept I don't think it would work in a winter climate where slush and ice would build up on the rockers, it looks cool though.
FujimiLover Posted March 30, 2009 Posted March 30, 2009 Those disappearing doors are interesting, but I'd be more impressed if someone did working Kaiser Darrin-style 'pocket' doors in scale: Seems you have more structural integrity here and this makes more sence then having the doors go downward.
