R. Thorne Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 My third build on here at the same time. Seems like I am always held up by parts or tools. Well, anyway, I wanted to build a replica of Bruce Wilkinson’s station wagon (one of the guys I ran against in those days), but since there is no practical way of obtaining a wagon, I decided to build something like Buddy Ingersol ran, but with a Wilkinson type of paint job. Clear as mud, huh? This is the kit and some assembly pics. Got the interior painted Rustoleum grey and the chassis painted Tamiya pure white. Some more pics later. 2
TransAmMike Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 Now this is a cool build. I also did some track time in my stock powerpack 283/Powerglide '57 Bel Air. Awww, then good old days!
boss 302 mustang Posted April 29, 2024 Posted April 29, 2024 Just a reminder that a legal junior stocker required cheater slicks....7" width .....Modelhaus Tires or Speed City Resin can hook you up unless you have some old Jo-Han ones from the '64 Mopars
R. Thorne Posted May 10, 2024 Author Posted May 10, 2024 Finally got a little work done. Scraped and sanded the fender seam line and put some primer on . 1
TransAmMike Posted May 10, 2024 Posted May 10, 2024 Well Ron You got the top of the fenders like they should be. Smooth!!

Yes, I like the ceramic scraper, and the infini soft back sanding sticks. Some pics after primer. Tried deepening the front and rear windshield with different scribing tools. Went ok, but, slipped off in the center of the back windshield. Then, I remembered I had purchased an adjustable Dspiae scriber specifically for this purpose. That’s pretty sad when you can’t remember all the tools you have. Anyway, it worked fine, and I put some putty on the gaffed up area and am letting it dry overnight. Gonna take a night off to watch the PBR (bull riding). 3
M W Elky Posted May 11, 2024 Posted May 11, 2024 Seeing that Jim Wabils big W decal in the back window of the wagon lets you know it’s a tough competitor

Mr. Waibel built some tough cars. Sanded down and rescribed the back window. Scribed the fender separation and sanded the body including 4000 for a polish effect. Washed it off with a tooth brush and getting ready to paint some Tamiya maroon. 1
R. Thorne Posted May 11, 2024 Author Posted May 11, 2024 Sprayed with Tamiya ts11 maroon. Looks ok so far. Let her dry overnight, then inspect. 1
R. Thorne Posted May 14, 2024 Author Posted May 14, 2024 Thanks, Guido, your encouragement is always appreciated. Some engine work yesterday, cut the Turboglide off in preparation for a scattershield and stick shift from , I believe, a 57 Nomad. The stock carb in the kit will be used and, actually looks a lot like the original 4gc Rochester carb. Gave it a bath to remove chrome.
R. Thorne Posted May 14, 2024 Author Posted May 14, 2024 The rear end and leaf springs are ready to install and I painted the shocks yellow as Monroe shocks were the most commonly used. Forgot to paint the front bumper facia, so did that. Put some ts30 on the scattershield (to be finished with some orange) and trans.
R. Thorne Posted May 16, 2024 Author Posted May 16, 2024 A little painting and engine assembly stuff. If you’re wondering why a 2 bladed fan, that was a little trick I picked up from Jack Mullins and was worth about 7 hundredths et on my Olds stocker. 1
R. Thorne Posted May 16, 2024 Author Posted May 16, 2024 Eyeballed the driveshaft length with engine/trans held in place, cut off about 1/4” and glued back together. Drilled some .063” holes (in stages) in preparation for fenderwell headers (to be made from 1/16” tig wire). 1
R. Thorne Posted May 31, 2024 Author Posted May 31, 2024 Finally got back to this one with some interior assembly, installed Sun type tach, master cylinder, wiper motor, and battery. No, the radiator is not staying on the seat. Just holding the steering wheel in place until the glue sets up. Should have used ca glue like I did everything else. 2
R. Thorne Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 (edited) Masked off and sanded and polished with the infini 4000 sponge stick for some ts14 Tamiya black. Edited June 11, 2024 by R. Thorne 2
R. Thorne Posted June 11, 2024 Author Posted June 11, 2024 Got a couple coats on separated by about 25 minutes. Gonna wait about a half hour and then remove tape. 2
R. Thorne Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 (edited) The black turned out good, but I’ve got some masking tape clean up to do on the maroon, especially on the driver’s side door. Probably try some wd40 first. Gonna wait til the black has dried before I mess with it anymore. Edited June 12, 2024 by R. Thorne 2
R. Thorne Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 Well, my first attempt at a two tone paint job was not a success. Tried to remove the blotch on the door with wd40, goo gone, and finally sanding. Realized it was not tape residue, but, black paint had bled in from, I guess, a poor masking job. Other spots were from tape residue and resisted my efforts with wd40 and goo gone. At this point, I am thinking some cleanup and an all black 56. 1
R. Thorne Posted June 12, 2024 Author Posted June 12, 2024 Decided to go all black. Went over whole car with 2500 then the white (polishing) sponge. The results after 30 minutes drying time. I’m happy and ready to move on. 2
Zippi Posted June 21, 2024 Posted June 21, 2024 I hate it when painting doesn't go our way. The black turned out nice.
