My third build on here at the same time.  Seems like I am always held up by parts or tools.  Well, anyway, I wanted to build a replica of Bruce Wilkinson’s station wagon (one of the guys I ran against in those days), but since there is no practical way of obtaining a wagon, I decided to build something like Buddy Ingersol ran, but with a Wilkinson type of paint job.  Clear as mud, huh?  This is the kit and some assembly pics.  Got the interior painted Rustoleum grey and the chassis painted  Tamiya pure white.  Some more pics later.

Well Ron You got the top of the fenders like they should be. Smooth!!

Yes, I like the ceramic scraper, and the infini soft back sanding sticks.  Some pics after primer.  Tried deepening the front and rear windshield with different scribing tools.  Went ok, but, slipped off in the center of the back windshield.  Then, I remembered I had purchased an adjustable Dspiae scriber specifically for this purpose.  That’s pretty sad when you can’t remember all the tools you have.  Anyway, it worked fine, and I put some putty on the gaffed up area and am letting it dry overnight.  Gonna take a night off to watch the PBR (bull riding).

Seeing that Jim Wabils big W decal in the back window of the wagon lets you know it’s a tough competitor

No doubt about that. Mr. Waibel built some tough cars.   Sanded down and rescribed the back window.  Scribed the fender separation and sanded the body including 4000 for a polish effect.  Washed it off with a tooth brush and getting ready to paint some Tamiya maroon.

Thanks, Guido, your encouragement is always appreciated.  Some engine work yesterday, cut the Turboglide off in preparation for a scattershield and stick shift from , I believe, a 57 Nomad.  The stock carb in the kit will be used and, actually looks a lot like the original 4gc Rochester carb.  Gave it a bath to remove chrome.

The rear end and leaf springs are ready to install and I painted the shocks yellow as Monroe shocks were the most commonly used.  Forgot to paint the front bumper facia, so did that.  Put some ts30 on the scattershield (to be finished with some orange) and trans.

A little painting and engine assembly stuff.  If you’re wondering why a 2 bladed fan, that was a little trick I picked up from Jack Mullins and was worth about 7 hundredths et on my Olds stocker.

Eyeballed the driveshaft length with engine/trans held in place, cut off about 1/4” and glued back together.  Drilled some .063” holes (in stages) in preparation for fenderwell headers (to be made from 1/16” tig wire).

Finally got back to this one with some interior assembly, installed Sun type tach,  master cylinder, wiper motor, and battery.  No, the radiator is not staying on the seat.  Just holding the steering wheel in place until the glue sets up.  Should have used ca glue like I did everything else.

Masked off and sanded and polished with the infini 4000 sponge stick for some ts14 Tamiya black.

The black turned out good, but I’ve got some masking tape  clean up to do on the maroon, especially on the driver’s side door. Probably try some wd40 first.  Gonna wait til the black has dried before I mess with it anymore.

Well, my first attempt at a two tone paint job was not a success.  Tried to remove the blotch on the door with wd40, goo gone, and finally sanding.  Realized it was not tape residue, but, black paint had bled in from, I guess, a poor masking job.  Other spots were from tape residue and resisted my efforts with wd40 and goo gone.  At this point, I am thinking some cleanup and an all black 56.

Decided to go all black.  Went over whole car with 2500 then the white (polishing) sponge.  The results after 30 minutes drying time.  I’m happy and ready to move on.

I hate it when painting doesn't go our way.  The black turned out nice.

It’s part of the game.  Black is becoming my favorite color (with model cars, that is).  Gotta get back on this one, soon.
