Coyote_6 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 (edited) "Harry's got a new driver and he needs a car to turn a coupla laps... I told ya it was Harry Hogge who asked us personally as a favor..." Loved the movie, loved this Exxon Lumina sitting next to the pit wall. Fun build - turned out alright. Aftermarket decals include foil trim on the Exxon logos. A lot of work on that stance again. Really liked how she sat in the movie. Again nothing fancy here. (Hand painted gages.) Just a fun build. Tried to capture the Daytona vibe. Thanks for looking. MarkJ Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Excellent build from an Iconic movie that brought Nascar to the masses. The only thing I didn't like about the whole deal was Kyle Busch hijacking the name Rowdy for himself. Again, excellent build on this one, Steve. 1
Coyote_6 Posted June 17, 2024 Author Posted June 17, 2024 @MarkJ. Thank you sir. In addition to just having a great looking car, I had read that Rowdy Burns' character was based a little bit on Dale Sr. - rewatching the movie I could see a bit of The Intimidator there. That was another aspect of the Rowdy Burns character that I really liked. He represented that old school NASCAR vibe that I really enjoyed back in the day. 1
Volzfan59 Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Great looking Days of Thunder car, you really captured it. The stance is spot on. I enjoyed the movie too. I too miss old school NASCAR racing along with the old school "just meant to rough him up a little" attitudes. I don't even watch, let alone attend NASCAR races anymore. 2 1
Coyote_6 Posted June 17, 2024 Author Posted June 17, 2024 @Volzfan59 I just started watching Infinity Series a bit after being gone from NASCAR for 23 years. At least the Infinity cars still have 5 lug nuts. ? 2
bbowser Posted June 17, 2024 Posted June 17, 2024 Top Gun in race cars, I loved it anyway. Model looks great!
Coyote_6 Posted June 18, 2024 Author Posted June 18, 2024 @bbowser Thanks Bruce. Honestly I thought the same thing, but yeah, nothing wrong with a little Top Gun! ?
Intmd8r Posted June 19, 2024 Posted June 19, 2024 Even though the build is based on a (fictional) movie car, it is still one of the best looking Lumina NASCAR stock cars in my books. job well done 1
bobss396 Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 The car looks great, but I will call DoT the worst racing movie ever made. Very unrealistic and Cruise stole his character name from Dick Trickle. 2
MarkJ Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 I agree, Bob. Talladega Nights was much more like real Nascar. Shake and Bake. 1 1
Rattlecan Dan Posted June 24, 2024 Posted June 24, 2024 Nice build. Got the stance and look. Good job. 1

If you ain't first, you're last... I had been around NASCAR tracks for a while, I was a licensed driver in street stocks, bombers, limited late models, etc from 1979 to 1987. Truly the tracks put up with little nonsense like DoT had. One guy I raced with had to fly down to Daytona to get his license status straightened out. 1
Thedragsterdude Posted December 26, 2024 Posted December 26, 2024 Why do nascar lumina’s look so good (especially the days of thunder lumina’s) 1

To be able to cover the tires, they had to let the teams form their fenders from scratch. Snowballed from there to where it wasn't long before the roof was the only factory metal left on the cars. Concessions kept being made as far as aerodynamic improvements and you ended up with a bland front wheel drive street car becoming a killer looking race car. 1

The nascar lumina don’t even look like the stock lumina! 1
TooOld Posted December 27, 2024 Posted December 27, 2024 Very nicely done ! Not a fan of the movie but the cars all looked great ! 1
