Speed City Resin Parts made a really nice Nova fastback body.  He shows "out of stock" at this time but you can get on a waiting list, according to his website.

They never made a 65 rag top.  Unfortunately, for some reason no Novas after 63 were convertibles.  It would be cool to see a re-release of the 63 rag top though.  The old kits have gotten too expensive.

The convertibles were discontinued, because it was felt the Chevelle line would be more popular. IIRC, the Nova SS was initially discontinued at the start of the '64 model year, and then brought back partway through the year.

I am curious what engine the resto-mod release includes. Is it a newer small block or LS? I was under the assumption "resto-mod" meant newer (often modern fuel injection) drivetrain in an older body.

For Moebius it seems that the resto mod kits aren't too the extreme of modern drivetrain but a few custom touches and options that weren't available from the factory that have been added in subsequent restorations. See their '64 Nova resto mod and the '65 Belvedere I.

Personally, I'd like to see a 65 Nova 100 2 door Sedan in both street machine and Replica Stock form withh steelie, dog dishes, a bench seat interior,  and a 6 cylinder or v8 engine. It can bring done.

The '65 Chevy II 100 2D Sedan should not be that tricky to kitbash. :P

I need to find a few missing parts for it and then my plan is to build one of them. I already have the '65 Gasser kit and '64 Hardtop on the shelf, but I'm waiting for some smaller items, like dog dish hubcaps to arrive before I get started on it.

The resto-mod term I believe has been around since the 70's. Nearly stock bodied hot rods which often included items that had typically been stripped off by hot rodders for the previous 30 years (cowl lamps, luggage racks, external horns, etc) and stock style paint schemes were being built with usually SBC's and modern (for the time) suspension components. That term has continued to be used on vehicles with mostly stock appearing body with moderately updated mechanical components. It's a subjective term, but I think still squarely fits what Moebius has been doing with their vesrions.

Pretty sure the '70s term you're thinking of Craig is "resto rod"  ,, "resto mod" is a much newer term usually applied to muscle cars set up in the style you're referring to as opposed to the pre-'40s cars. ?

That is my Understanding as well. The 1970's Hot Rod Magazines refer to Resto-Rods quite often. Many in the photos, could be stock, except for the Rake, and Wire Wheels on the Big'n'Littles. All other mods are hidden.

Yes, you are correct

I’ve been waiting for this since the gasser version was introduced.

Sure, you can get close by kitbashing with a Nova hardtop, but you still have to come up with a correct interior, steel wheels and dog dish hubcaps.  I suppose you could buy an AMT wagon for the six, but now you’re into 3 kits plus whatever aftermarket stuff you have to get for it.  Motivation starts to wane when the cost approaches $200 Cdn just to get a stock sedan.

While I’m on the topic of versions I’ll never get, how about an Acadian 2 door sedan?  Since Moebius is dipping into the dark side with their upcoming Canadian Mecury pickup, an Acadian would help complete the set! ;)

That’s what I ended up doing to replicate my first car in 1/24 scaleIMG_6713.thumb.jpeg.198b1172c8fb6558eeb425ccb0d9ca73.jpegIMG_6725.thumb.jpeg.812474614dcf1611ad7d928b14dfb1ff.jpegIMG_6640.thumb.jpeg.1f2a03fc8733197646bd8e67ee7c9e9f.jpegIMG_6063.jpeg.0a7221101e9956432ee681549a5563de.jpegIMG_6063.jpeg.0a7221101e9956432ee681549a5563de.jpeg

On reflection, parts are in the tool now to make a '65 straight axle gasser, as well as the base-base sedan. Doubt we see another bodystyle out of the tool, but, would love to be wrong on this.
