Super, Pierre - one of the best-looking touring cars ever ! This is going to be great and something to follow!

(I had the Arii kit and sold it again - I'm sure it comes from the same molds as your Airfix kit and its proportions were way off)

Well, this is gonna be awesome to watch come together! Big fan of the CSL.......... I hope this is okay, I wanted to show you this drawing.

Not the greatest drawing, but hopefully it shows my love for these cars........

The ARII kit is off the Otaki molds, with separate parts for doors and fenders. As bas as it looked to you it was still better than what I'm dealing with. I wanted to start this project with an Otaki kit but could not find a reasonably priced one.

Follow up to Helmut's observation. I found a picture of the Otaki/Scale Craft/ ARii/Owner's Club body online and comparing it to the Airfix/Heller body. The glass area on the Otaki seems to have much better proportions. I have doubts creeping in that pursuing this build with the Airfix body will be good enough. I was not looking to achieve a fully accurate replica but at least a good level of realism. Not sure I can get there with the Airfix kit.

Did the Aston Martin DB5 make it to the underglass  section and I missed it?  Looks like you have found another great subject to first fix and then build. Too bad the model makers can't seem to get even a greenhouse correct. Looking forward to more of this and waiting for the finished pictures of the Aston Martin.

You could always build some sort of pro-touring monster kustom....... Something that might would have a chopped roof.

Looks like you may get closer cutting into the roof at the top of the windows more.  Don't know if you want to go that route, though, as it probably means altering or replacing the glass parts.

Pierre..this BMW is a favorite of mine. I have a picture of my two children taken at the Watkins Glen Historic races many years back , of them standing in front of the real car.  So this is special to me and I have a whole section in my case of these kits completed , mostly box stock since they were done so long ago,. Will be interested to see what magic you perform on this one. Your WIP's are always a treat.

The DB5 is still in waiting for wire wheels shipped by SpotModel 4 weeks ago so I decided to take on the next project. The BMW 3.5csl is a holy grail build for me so I am determined to find a way to work with these so so old kits to get it done

Thanks TJ but I am set on replicating the car as it was designed to race in 1976.

Thanks Ken, there might still be a bit of room there and perhaps along the belt line too. I'll try it.

Thank you so much Rich. The E9 BMW was the prettiest of them all and the csl racing version was simply awesome. Too bad no accurate kit of it exists so I try to make things a bit better. I just want to get the glass areas good because they are such a key part of this car's unique styling.

Phew, you had me worried there for a moment Pierre.

I don't know, might be neat to see what Pierre would do with the TV car

Sorry, Pierre - I thought these kits were the same.

Anyway, it is a very beautiful racecar, also the first version from ca. 1973 without those side-pods:

I agree, it's beautiful and certainly a bit more restrained compared to the group 5 spec car I am attempting to replicate

Pierre, that roof looks so much better, and the front air dam does too. It's amazing to watch how you go about fixing a problem and then fix it and show us how you did it. Outstanding is not a good enough word to describe your build technique.

Hi Pierre, you've done a brilliant job with the glass house and you don't have to worry about the front and rear glass.  Excellent!!

Do you have vacform capability?

Thanks Mark, as always you are so kind in review of my efforts. I like this type of work but this one will have lots more issues to deal with.

Thanks Dave. This operation is as old fashioned as it gets. Old styrene kits, putty and paint brushes. Perhaps I should get a vacform some day...
