cool project! I found the Otaki kit cheap at a shop.....decent kit...but still on the to do shelf

That's a good find Dave. I think the Otaki is a better kit to model this historically important race car. The kit I'm working from involves more work but it's an enjoyable journey.

I believe there was a line of motorized 1/28 scale Japanese kits back then. I know Bandai did some American subjects in 1/28. I can see Airfix reboxing a 1/28 scale kit as 1/24. Look at the excellent work you did on the Airfix kit as practice?

scale schmale - build them both.  ?

I did everything I could to make the Airfix body presentable, but now I just can't look at it. Focusing on the Otaki going forward.

I agree with Ken.

I have one donor chassis, one set of very scary decals, one PE detail set and one set of properly sized replacement wheels and tires, so one build it will be and it will be with the better Otaki body shell. Still tons of issues to resolve. Stay tuned.

Box says 1/24, molding on trees says 1/24... but it's not. I should have checked when I first opened the box and saw the small body shell. My bad.

Good choice, Pierre. Gotta go with whatever all those hard found parts and decals will look the best on. You still had fun fixing the other body so nothing to feel sad about. The build will end up as always, top of the line and fabulous.

Pierre, I would go on with the Otaki first and keep the Airfix up for later. You could build them in 2 different liveries : a white works car and the green Gösser Beer Schnitzer team car for instance.

I would not have guessed that there are such differences in dimensions...

Speaking of realism, check out the difference between the kit wheels & tires and the upgraded units I put together. Wheels & tires can make a huge difference between a build that looks like a toy and the same build having a purposeful look to it. Pictures below tell the story.

Pierre, those vents are off the charts impressive. I'm totally in awe of them. Now I need to pick myself up off of the floor. Model on, oh great one.

Phewwww- lots of work you are doing here, Pierre (who thought otherwise?) - but the stance of the body onits wheels looks perfect. You are always looking for big challenges, aren't you?

If your intention was to build something in-between waiting for the missing parts for teh DB5, then you have certainly  found a much bigger challenge with this one. Simply great !

Definitely not an in-between build. I've been scheming this one for a long time. A big challenge for sure!

This is coming along great, especially that stance!

Thanks TJ. She looks all business but there is so much more to do.

Once you get the stance right the rest is gravy. That sits perfectly!

Gravy for you Jason, but not for me. I'm sh... scared of the decals but some more manageable stuff to do before I hit that bridge

And I thought I had patented that sanding drum!!!!

Looking really good Pierre, it's going to be the model you first envisaged.

Love it.
