NitroMarty Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 (edited) Over the years I have managed to gather a few assorted bits to piece together a Revell Dodge Revellion '62 Dart "funny car"... Of course I've actually never gotten around to putting those bits to use and built a Revellion, but recently got the idea to, instead, to build it up as a stable mate to a '62 Dart Gasser that I built around 15 years ago, that I named Penniless....... Below are the kits that will supply the main components for the project.... The Tony Nancy dragster will provide a fresh chassis and suspension bits, while the Garlits' car will lend a Dodge Hemi, to replace the Plymouth wedge found in the Nancy kit.... Grille is an AMT Parts Pack item (I never like the gaping hole left by the omitting of the grille in the original Revellion kit) Finish, of course, is going to mimic the original Penniless Gasser.... Wish me luck. ? Edited September 5, 2024 by NitroMarty 6
M W Elky Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Now that’s a great project. The Dart gasser is very fine
Altered Ego Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 I am actually jealous of the Dart Gasser. The 62-63 Dodges and Plymouths have a uniqueness to them that make possibilities almost endless. Gasser, super stocker, match racer, etc. Can't wait to see this one progress.
TarheelRick Posted September 5, 2024 Posted September 5, 2024 Beautiful gasser and going to be one fine funny car. That being said, IMHO that year Dart and sister Valiant were some of the ugliest cars from the Dodge factory.
NitroMarty Posted December 12, 2024 Author Posted December 12, 2024 With the Thunderbird show custom finally done and out of the way, it's time to get down to business on this one... Got the chassis somewhat squared away and have started assembling a Hemi to take the place of the Plymouth wedge in the original kit. Sure hope this works out! 3
Straightliner59 Posted December 12, 2024 Posted December 12, 2024 Austin& Grassi coupe inspired? Should be cool!
dragcarz Posted December 15, 2024 Posted December 15, 2024 A very cool project Marty, I too have accumulated parts to do this same build, so I’m curious how this come out. Excellent work!
Carmak Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I really like your gasser build and your funny car project! I really like details on the gasser such as the vintage redlines on the front. Nice! Looking forward to seeing the completed funny car at a club meeting.
rattle can man Posted December 16, 2024 Posted December 16, 2024 I'll be watching. this is my kind of build: different.
NitroMarty Posted January 5 Author Posted January 5 (edited) With the hassle of the holidays finally behind us, I was actually able to get a few minutes of bench time today... Have the chassis about 95% squared away, with front suspension in place and the differential from the Garlits' Wynn's Jammer adapted to to fit... Pretty much just need to wrap up the steering equipment. The Dodge Hemi from the Garlits' kit is also just about wrapped up as well.... Once the chassis and drivetrain are out of the way, it will be time to get the body ready for paint... And then a long wait for warmer temps, so I can start painting in the parking lot again. 😁 EDIT: I have since fixed the front plug wire! Edited January 5 by NitroMarty 4
NitroMarty Posted February 24 Author Posted February 24 My wife is finally out of the hospital and at home recuperating, so I've been able to get back to work on this one.... Chassis and drivetrain are about 95% done... Am waiting for a couple of warmer less windy days, so that I can setup out in the parking lot to lay a bit color on the body. 1
NitroMarty Posted February 27 Author Posted February 27 (edited) One step forward.... Two steps back. 😠 It's been gorgeous here the last couple of days, so I decided step outside to shoot the color on my Dart this afternoon. Unfortunately, I got in a rush and laid down too much paint too fast, resulting in an ugly mess.... So now it's soaking in a vat of 91% to melt it all away. Lesson learned.... Hopefully the 2nd attempt will yield a better outcome. Edited February 28 by NitroMarty Spelling 2
NitroMarty Posted March 15 Author Posted March 15 The weather has finally come around enough to make painting outdoors easier, sooooo..... Yesterday morning I grabbed the Testors Dark Bronze and laid down a couple of light coats, followed by one good wet one a couple of hours later. This morning I did the same with Tamiya TS-13 clear... Much better results this time around! 2
Ace-Garageguy Posted March 15 Posted March 15 Looking real fine. You got a bunch of other cool stuff on your bench there too.
NitroMarty Posted May 4 Author Posted May 4 Inching ever closer.... I fired up the NOS Dell A940 inkjet and printed up a fresh batch of graphics, so this car will match my old gasser build... 1
