Taking a page from the MPC playbook with the typography on the cover!  Looks good, will be a great one to build.

Not sure if anyone else remembers Tim Boyd's SA (or was it MCM?) article on building this kit and the few mods needed to get everything all lined up - I recall moving the rear axle, for example.

If that rings a bell and you can post the Volume and Issue date, that would be great!

That would be the Feb/2001 issue, Bob.

Can't one just use the complete chassis from the '68'69?

Wondering

It's a very good question, 'cause not only would that sort your engine mounts, it'd bring you the poseable steering from the ProModeler-based kits that the '70 lacks.  We'd be talking entirely different wheels and mounting systems, which might confine you the 68/'69 Magnums or the '68's steel wheels, unless you were feeling more adventurous.

Far as I can tell, the chassis plates are close enough they might interchange, needing only the most minor work if any.  But as it's been pointed out, there's less rearward bias for the rear axle in the '70 than there is in the '68/'69.

^^^^ THIS ^^^^  - Thank you, Tim! I will be looking this up on my DVD and bookmarking.

Beyond the Charger, so many of Tim's build stories had/have great suggestions for solving the simple faults that seem to work their way into so many kits, the reviews were invaluable to me as a buy/pass guide. Well, mostly buy. Knowing there IS a way that a simple mod can take a build from 'eh' to 'Oh!' is invaluable. Tim's reviews were one of the best parts of the classic SA (with E) and other mags.

Hi all, Sorry to rehash an old thread. Wondering how this new kit differs from the older kit with the pink Charger on the front? Is it just the wheels? Are there any other differences?
Thank you!

Decal sheet has been expanded and now includes the optional C-striping.

I’m not sure the wheels differ from the Pink box release. That one came with Magnum 500’s, looks like this new one does, too.

First pic is decal sheet from pink car original issue, second pic is from recent reissue .

Personally I like the reissue decal sheet as it gives more options.

Has the oversized grille script issue from the first production run been permanently addressed?

If it is engraving on the plastic grill, then no, it is the same.

Don't have this re-release, as it's not in regular distribution by Revell in Europe. So can't comment on this....maybe by checking out HPIguys youtube clip build of this kit, your question can be answered.

I seem to recall that script getting downsized, but I'd need a look to be certain.

Check out HPI's still frame above, and it seems to be about right.

Zoom in on the attached pic and you'll see more slop in the trim detail than I'd like you to, plus a decal that's not entirely centered over the engraved script - but I do believe Revell corrected it.

It has the same wheels and redline tires as the pink box. Just decal changes.

Raoul...been going through my back many issues of Mopar Muscle magazine over the last week and just today ready the blurb on your '70 Sport suburban in that mag.  (Noticed they called it a '71 n error...unless you grafted the '71 grille into the '70 bumper).  I've admired that image in your MCM Forum signature box for years; it was cool to read the details in that mag's "Penta Stars" column.  I presume you still have the car?

My dad had a dealer demo '71 Sport Suburban as his business car for a couple of years...360 two barrel with part throttle downshift was a lot more responsive than the 383 2 barrel in his other car, a '69 Town and Country wagon....the '71 had a nicer interior and was a lot quieter, too...fwiw!  T B

Thanks Tim. Yes, I still have the wagon. At the moment it is broke. I could have repaired the 440 but decided to build a stroker big block but life has made it sit some.

Short story is it is really a 1971 Sport Suburban. The only give away to anyone who knows these cars is that it has the one piece front door windows (no vent windows). A 1970 would have them. I changed the grill, front vallance and hood for 1970 items. I also had to modify the fenders as the original turn signals and 383 emblems were on them. But on a 70, those are on the hood. Plus change the mirrors and driver door trim for a 70 model as well. So now it appears as a 1970. But I did all that 25-30 years ago. Back in 2008 I did buy another 70 Sport Suburban for parts. I have that one still as well and it is also a 383 2v car. Still has the motor and trans but I just wanted the extra grill and trim. It was $600 but final bill was $1300 after getting it home. It was in Colorado and was a great weekend adventure getting it to AZ!
