ModelcarJR Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 (edited) This is the Revell 007 kit that I am going to convert to a performance Mach 1. The chrome tree had the hood locks still on it so I have them and have drilled holes in the hood using the underside outline of where they go to drill it out. I found a rear spoiler for it in the parts box and I made a front air dam for it out of sheet plastic. I'll use the silver decals from the Revell Mustang Boss 351 that I didn't use when I built the Boss with black decals. I'll also use silver pinstripes and Mach 1 markings from the AMT kit that I bought and am building in black and white. So I think I have everything covered to build it this way. I painted the body Dupli-Color Bahama Blue Metallic and the related body parts have been painted as well with black and Tamiya Gloss Aluminum. Tomorrow, I'll paint the body and hood with the Aluminum on the rocker panels and the center of the hood. Then I clear it and rub it out the following day. So now I will have several bodies painted and I also have to paint the related parts to have several kits backed up for when the weather starts to turn. Maybe a little early but I want to paint now while the weather is nice here. Thanks for looking! ? Edited October 7, 2024 by ModelcarJR spelling and grammar 2
slusher Posted October 7, 2024 Posted October 7, 2024 It’s always nice to have a few painted for bad weather. Great shade of blue John.
ModelcarJR Posted October 8, 2024 Author Posted October 8, 2024 Thanks, Carl and Rex! I appreciate your comments! Painted the silver on the body and hood and added a coat of clear. I don't think I'll have to rub this out much. Thanks for looking! 2
ModelcarJR Posted October 13, 2024 Author Posted October 13, 2024 Thanks, DJ and Greg! I appreciate your comments! I wanted to do something with black and blue in the interior but there is really no way to do it without being too much blue, inside and out. So I thought about it and why not go with a tried and true formula that worked well with the 71 Mustang Boss that I built. So I used Gunmetal flatted out with Dullcote and a black carpet. Its almost black and resembles the interior of a modern day car. So once that was done, I finished rubbing out the body. Now all 5 bodies are rubbed out and now I just have the 69 Chevelle to paint the additional parts and I will have 5 kits ready to assemble and finish. I don't know if I will start on them or keep painting while the weather is good. Thanks for looking! ? 4
ModelcarJR Posted October 17, 2024 Author Posted October 17, 2024 Painted the cowl and radiator support under the hood and foiled the exterior. Not too much foil on this one. Everything is painted now and it is in the cue for assembly. Thanks for looking! ? 2
ModelcarJR Posted October 31, 2024 Author Posted October 31, 2024 (edited) I'm back at this one and it is such a relief to build such a nice kit. This is the Revell 007 kit but I am building it as a regular Mustang Mach 1. I have finished the engine and the interior including all the decals which are numerous. I haven't added the one on the air cleaner yet as I may have to pull it off to get the engine in the body. The engine has plug wires, looms, and boots. I also added a fuel line and drilled holes for the heater hoses that will be added in the final build stage. The decals are great and everything fits together well. I painted the interior with Tamiya Gunmetal to effect a gray interior with black and silver accents. Can't see much of the dash but the detailed decals are really nice. Next is the chassis and I have to find some wheels. Thanks for looking! ? Edited October 31, 2024 by ModelcarJR Copy text 4
ModelcarJR Posted November 1, 2024 Author Posted November 1, 2024 I've gotten something done today; it took me most of the day but the wheels and tires are done. Doesn't look like much but I had the search for tires and wheels and had 3-4 sets that I liked but they didn't work out. They were either too big, the wheelback wouldn't fit with the kit axle which would require either a sleeve or some other fix to make them fit. The tires are small in this kit and the wheelbacks tuck into the hollow tire. So I decided that using the kit tire and wheelback would be the best solution so I found these Keystones in a 1/24 scale 66 Shelby Mustang kit that fit inside the tire and snap into place. I will glue them in on final assembly. These are the wheels that are most often on 71 Mustangs in photos I have seen and are the same type of wheels in the 71 Revell Mustang Boss 351 kit. So once that was decided then I had to paint in the black on the wheel (which takes a while) and then apply some Fireball Modelworks Goodyear decals. But now I can move on and complete the chassis. Thanks for looking! ? 2
slusher Posted November 1, 2024 Posted November 1, 2024 Really nice looking tires ? and interior also John!
ModelcarJR Posted November 3, 2024 Author Posted November 3, 2024 Thanks, Carl! I appreciate your comment! The chassis. engine, windows and rear taillight panel are done and in! The wheels were a real pain. Seems they didn't fit the tires as well as I thought and the tires came off the wheelback twice forcing me to remove t-he wheel and glue the tire onto the wheelback. In the process, even though I used Z-7 debonder I broke the axle stub both times and had to drill out the axle and wheel and install a new stub. I also rubbed off two tire decals and had to reapply new decals. But finally everything settled down and its sitting on all fours. I still haven't glued the front wheels on and will wait until the interior is in and the body is on and I am near completion before I glue them on. It would have been much easier if I had the right wheels that were in the Boss 351 kit so I guess I should have waited for the new kit instead of using the 007 kit. Each piece or assembly is very time consuming. I've mentioned the wheels, but the engine is no piece of cake wiring the spark plugs and threading the heater hoses under the support over the top of the right valve cover because there isn't any room between the engine and the inner fender. I had to make my own top hose to fit around the distr;ibutor because the kit piece wasn't going to do it. Side windows and mirror attached to the windshield are no easy task either. So next is installing the interior into the body and body on the chassis. I hope everything comes together but I think I will wait until I am fresh in the morning! Thanks for looking! ? 5
