53gmc Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 A friend gave me this 49 ford kit a little while ago and now it's up to be built 2
53gmc Posted November 12, 2024 Author Posted November 12, 2024 Gonna build it as a mild custom so first up is figuring out the power plant. Currently leaning towards the caddy motor, but I do love flathead so it's up in the air for now 2
Zippi Posted November 12, 2024 Posted November 12, 2024 That Shoebox Ford will be a nice build with either engine Seth. 3
slusher Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 I have always loved the 49 Ford! Looking forward to the build! 2
53gmc Posted November 13, 2024 Author Posted November 13, 2024 Mocking up stuff now, think I'm gonna run this front end. Now trying to decide if I want to shave the trim and handles 4
espo Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 Great kit and endless possibilities for build style. 1
David G. Posted November 13, 2024 Posted November 13, 2024 This looks like a fun build, lots of options. David G. 1
53gmc Posted November 15, 2024 Author Posted November 15, 2024 Got the cadillac motor built. Body's almost ready for primer. Shaved the handles and trim, drenched headlights and tail lights 3
Mattblack Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Nice work! I've got this kit in my stash and am thinking along similar lines. Mind you, at my building pace it will be a while yet... 1
Sledsel Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 I had to check this one out as I am working on a mild custom '49 Ford also. So far we are eerily alike. I'll let you in on a trick, these kits use the metal axles and when using the lowest setting for the front the cross member and lower control arms are almost touching the table. I sanded the frame cross member on mine and raised the lower suspension up. I had to shorten the mounting pegs also. I provided a pic of where to sand. 2
David G. Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 The engine looks great, excellent choice! I like the classic custom work you're starting on the body. It should look cool when it's finished. David G. 1

carnut Posted November 15, 2024 Posted November 15, 2024 Really nice work, I’m always chopping mine. Keep it going. 1
53gmc Posted November 17, 2024 Author Posted November 17, 2024 Body work is done and the first color is down. Also got the chassis painted and the wheels and tires assembled 4
53gmc Posted November 18, 2024 Author Posted November 18, 2024 Finished up the interior. Added magazines and car club plate to the rear shelf. The front seats are the optional buckets from the 34 ford pickup kit. 3
slusher Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 (edited) Looks really Great and awesome progress! Edited November 18, 2024 by slusher 1
Zippi Posted November 18, 2024 Posted November 18, 2024 Pretty nice looking Shoebox Ford Seith. Nice looking color choice. 1
53gmc Posted November 23, 2024 Author Posted November 23, 2024 I had issues with my paint job and the body was damaged beyond use when I tried to strip it down. Long story short I ordered another kit. I already had a spare body that I had radius cut the quarters, so that body will become a drag car 1
Kenmojr Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Sorry to hear about your paint issue. Looking forward when you get the replacement kit. 1

slusher Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 I also hate too hear about your paint trouble, your Ford was look so good.. 1
bobss396 Posted November 23, 2024 Posted November 23, 2024 Considering this kit originated around 1963, they still build up very well. 1
