Guys, I recently ordered the '60 Starliner kit and would like to put a custom interior in it. The type of inside I would like for it to have is the pro-touring style sculpted interior...... Are there many, if any, kits with sculpted door panels and matching seats? or Is this something I would need to make myself? Also, how many of you have scratch made your own interior? If you have, please post some pics! Reference pics would be nice, too............

Thanks, Fellas.......

the foose caddy interior might fit but your probably going to have to scratch it up. if you find the seats first you can then build up the sides to match

Hey, Les my man....... What material could I use for the door cards? How would I make things symmetrical? Something I could either mold or carve...........

i like evergreen shapes and sheets. it files to shape easily and most hobby glues works well on it. to get things symetrical i tend to put a spot of superglue on the back and use the part as a template to cut the other side so both are the same. i'll do any needed shaping at this point too. if you watch some trimmers working vids, you'll get more ideas on shapes and stuff and really the materials are the only difference. this charger is all just flat sheet but it the first somewhat successful interior i made though now i dont have them flat. it was as simple as marking the shapes i wanted then lightly sanding the edges to soften them a little.

One of our fellow builders here showed a build where he did a custom interior using materials he got at a local Hobby Lobby. I have purchased a couple of sheets of the material but have not had a build where I would be using them, but I do see how this could be easily done. The sheets are available in a couple of colors under the name "Silly Winks". They come in 9" by 12" sheets with a self-adhesive backing. He would draw out a pattern for the interior parts, seats and door panels, on the sheet. They cost a whapping $.99 each so you're not out a lot. The interior design is just laid down over the existing door panels and seats. I guess if you don't like it or want to change it you could just peel off the design and try something else. As another option consider working with the kit's interior. I built the kit you mentioned last year and just used spray paints to replicate the stock materials Ford used. I have attached a picture so you can see if that would even be of interest, I understand that you may have something else in mind.

The seats from the Testors Vantastic kit are really nice, modern custom types.  They made two or three versions. I don’t remember which box mine was in.

You can get a very consistent smooth edge on scratch built door panel sections by using Evergreen quarter round for the border of each section.

These are all really good suggestions and ideas, Guys............. :D

Espo, I wanted to show you the seats from the last Starliner that I built........ They're pearl white with gold ship rigging for piping. Your interior looks really good! I'm hoping with this latest kit I can go more pro-tour than the 'mild custom' of the first one.......

You can do nearly anything with styrene stock.

I replicated the door cards for my '68 Coronet entirely from various Evergreen stock.

The only portion remaining of the original kit's door cards was a thin portion of the upper door panel, and the kick panel.

Everything else was scratch built with Evergreen plastic sheets and strips.

Like any other scratch building, it's just a bunch of shapes glued together. You can use the kit's interior as a starting point and go from there.

All the mods I did on this interior were done with just sheet stock cut to shape. Each individual pleat on the seats and door panels are made up from individual pieces.

Here's a link to the build album starting on the interior work.

Hey, guys! I've been working on modifying the seats from an '09 Challenger for use in the Starliner.......... I guess I just wanted to get you all's opinion on how it's going so far. I had to make the package shelf and skirt for the bottom.......

I'm going to have a pretty big gap between the seat and the door panel..... Not sure if I should let that slide or not. Once built up, it will look better. The wheel well looks okay there........

I'll fill that seam across the back before paint.

So, what do you guys think? Will this pass for the 'vibe' I'm going for?

it looks good but i think you need to make up some side bolsters for the seat. if you have the stock seat still you could trim the ends from it and smooth them in to the existing bolsters

Guys, if this doesn't look okay, I can still use the stock seats............. I tried to make filling the gap look decorative. This still needs fine tuning, but you get the idea!

The Charger side panels look a little more finished than without. On the other hand, with the seat alone and the rear inner fenders exposed that could represent a vehicle with rear wheel tubs. Just depends on the nature of the build. That AMT '60 Sunliner is a great kit.
