For those who never saw the initial release...

I bought one when the kit first came out. To me, the wheels were the only turnoff. However with the availability of 3D printed wheels and other accessories such as an excellent manual transmission, this fine kit will get a second look. I like the supercharged big block engine.

These Schott wheels from ZForce that I detailed are among the wheels I am considering for the build.

Is it the 69 El Camino that came without the window framing like a hard top car? I seem to remember something like that. That kit might be a good source for converting the 68 into a 69.

All of the 1968 through 1972 Chevrolet ElCamino had framed side windows with Vent Windows. The 1968 AMT kit is correct in that aspect.

That's the one I have... First thing I did after opening the box was cut the mags from the chrome tree and threw them in my parts box.... Along with the tires...🤨🤢🤨

Schott wheels would look good on it. They really lend themselves to a good paint and detail.

No cutting was done on the Riviera to make them fit 😁

Just a heads-up that a full, in-depth kit review and buildup has just been posted at the online forum of the magazine that covers all types of scale models.  It includes issues to watch out for when building the kit.

If you are thinking of buying the kit, or you have bought it and have it in your personal build cue, recommend you take a minute and check it out...

Best....TIM

I’d hate to lose the ‘68/‘69, but I’d love to see a ‘70 based on this tool.  Or, maybe just do a new body with the same chassis and interior bucket.  Of course, a new dash and seats would have to be done as well.  However, I think the ‘70 would be worth it and sell quite well.

I would love to see a '69 and/or '70 Elky myself, but the interiors and underhood ('69-70) are quite different as well. Round2 had enough difficulty updating the '70 1/2 Camaro kit to a new front clip that they still may have a sour taste in their corporate mouths and may not be interested in beating their heads against that wall again. But who knows?

I agree that the 70 would have been the superior choice but I don't think this era of kits is going to get significant updates any time soon. They've said that these kits fit so tight that they require a high degree of precision which gets expensive. These kits don't have CAD files so first they have to make an accurate CAD file as the kit exists now and then develop the changes. This is why the new Demon kit isn't based on the Duster which seemed like a logical choice. It was easier to start from scratch than reverse engineer a body to fit the Duster.

I would buy one or two in spite of already building resin one. Other parts needed that would work are the dash and front bumper from the 70 Monte Carlo kit. The entire drivetrain would work as well.

No. Very close, but the accessory drive changed in 1969. The A/C compressor swapped sides.
