Traditionaly you are right, but again that car is french so everything might be different

They look like they could be made to cover the wheel hub., The locator on the front set fit spindles I've seen. Nice looking work tho. I just did some and those have me going back to the drawing board. Its been years since I did mine and decided to pull it down and check it out. Those are correct. Edited March 5 by MeatMan
MeatMan Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Here's an update on my Cosworth Monza. I had to reverse the changes I made for last years run by removing the turbo and serpentine belt setup. I also had to design and print headers to fit the Monza because the ones that came with the engine wouldn't go under the floor pan. I made them shorty style. I also designed a distributor cap closer to what came with the 1:1 engine, and angle plug boots for a lower profile. I also printed some Weber carbs and designed and printed a period air filter. For the body, I leaned more into the Spyder II look by changing the taillights. That was actually prompted by the fact that I broke one of the kit taillights. I think they came out pretty well. The hood was designed and printed to closely match the Spyder II hood. I've finished the chassis but won't post that until its rolling. Thanks. 2
MeatMan Posted March 5 Posted March 5 I tried to edit my previous post but the site wouldn't let me. While taking pics I realized that Last year's build didn't require a front plate because it was current, and Ohio doesn't require one. Well in '75 it was a requirement, so I had to add a bracket. I'm also adding pics of the Spyder II since newer entrants may not have seen them. 2 1

That license plate bracket is as 70s as it gets, so blocky! 1

I did more research and does indeed seem that the they are molded backwards. The calipers themselves are correct, but just on the wrong sides.
geras24 Posted March 5 Posted March 5 Update on my Cannonball WIP: The hood scoop is ready to paint. I checked the engine height, and it fits well. The engine is almost ready. I just need to add the fan, starter, and exhaust manifold. I made the blower and its pulleys from scratch I also opened the trunk. And I did a paint test. 2

RockinRoller Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Hello from Berlin/Germany! I´m in with my 1975 Laguna Hawaiian Tropic car... that jumps the pool in the movie... First time starting this build I thought it was a easy-peasy buildup... but as usual it turns into a expensive and time-consuming drama... but who cares - that´s the hobby! 😄 I´m a TV- & Movie-Vehicle (model)builder and a collector... so the original MPC box stays unbuild and I decided to grab one of the many issues of that kit. The kit is absolute cruel... and as more as you dig into the moviecar, you see, it has nothing in common, only the base-bodyshape... much to do and a benefit to join my first community build! God bless 3D-printing... Greetings, Oliver 2
Mattilacken Posted March 8 Author Posted March 8 (edited) @RockinRoller nice to se a Laguna entering!! I love these cars, and I have one 1:1 Malibu of these years as well. regarding the chassis, that chassi is nothing as what they had more what the movie car had since that’s a original car and not a race car. So a chassi for the movie car you would be best of with swapinh in a chassi from any of the earlier Chevelle a or Buicks the interior are available as files for printing now, thank good. If you want a race car, a GM monogram nascar from the ’80s fits good with minor adjustments. I have understood that they actually ran with original chassis that got modified and I do have a lot of pictures of period correct ones, but it depends on how period correct you want to be. 🙂 for me the Monigram chassis are good. I know a place in EU that carry those kits so pm me if interested and I can give you the link. o, and if you didn’t notice in the movie it’s a Laguna until they paint it gray, after that it’s a Monte Carlo. Here is one of mine: Edited March 8 by Mattilacken 2
Beans Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Got my color on. Went with Pearl white. Still needs clear but it's progress. 2
RockinRoller Posted March 14 Posted March 14 @Mattilacken wasn´t able to response faster, because the website always shows an error trying... I restore a 1947 Fleetline Aerosedan for 12 years now... but I would trade against a Laguna to create this one in 1:1! So call me if you are interested (I´m in Berlin/Germany!). I put so much work to make the chassis fit... I guess I keep it, because this won´t be seen anymore when it is "under glass" or on display. I want to create a "childhood memory" as usual with TV- and movie vehicles we are in danger to push it too far with accuracy - and then never get it done. Must learn that over the last 35 years. 😉 Have to make some additional decals and sculting a new rear-bumper... opened the lights and grille to make it more stock. So this on goes way too far already. But who knows, where it leads me with my personal issue of "not being able to keep a build simple". 😄 Sooo much filling and sanding to do... rear bumper is in a resculpting process to create the cutout for license plate area... tinytinytiny... Greetings Oliver 4
Mattilacken Posted March 14 Author Posted March 14 @RockinRoller great progress mate! Cool project you have going! And nice to find an other in eu that have similar taste in cars as me hehe you are doing a great job on this build and I like your fabricated rear panel!
MeatMan Posted March 16 Posted March 16 Quick update on the Monza. I flocked the interior floor and painted the panels (not shown) but I have to give them a coat of satin varnish or matte. Got the chassis mostly done but have some detailing to do. I'm pondering the rear window louver but won't decide until I paint the body. I designed the wheels to look like the stock 4 bolt wheels but they look more like Cragers. Gives it that 70's rake. 6 1

White Rabbit Posted March 26 Posted March 26 (edited) Everyone's builds are looking great! We're definitely going to have tough vote this year! As for the Alpine, I've been working primarily on parts prep. and 3d. Since the brake calipers were molded backwards, I took the opportunity to build more accurate calipers. The calipers will be separate pieces from the rotors; while the rotors themselves will be made in two pieces as well to facilitate painting. Since I was in the neighborhood, I also modeled a more accurate rear-mount oil cooler. Edited March 26 by White Rabbit 4
oldcarfan Posted March 27 Posted March 27 I pushed through and 'finished' my entry. Now I'm going to take a couple days and let it sit on the shelf at eye level to make sure I didn't forget anything. 3
oldcarfan Posted March 30 Posted March 30 I'm declaring my build done! Not sure how, I usually don't finish until a panic influenced late November rush. I spent a couple days looking it over and didn't see any I forgot which is odd! So here it is. The boys' gear is laid out, ready to pack and go the second they get the call with the code word, "Gumball." Whoops, wrong movie. 5 1
White Rabbit Posted March 31 Posted March 31 Nearly done with the 3D work. I had made the rims to be compatible with the stock tires, (which they are), but, I decided to challenge myself to model the tires as well. Michelin XAS 165HR 13. I also removed the windscreen washer nozzles on the body and modeled separate units. 2
