beeRS Posted December 31, 2024 Posted December 31, 2024 Wow. Fantastic job. Considering that most of the exhaust detail is moulded in, you made it look really good underneath as well.
LennyB Posted January 6 Posted January 6 Nice clean build, gotta love an old Galaxie. And it's a gorgeous color. Not sure if I'm seeing this right but it looks as if you have the negative and positive battery cables both going to the starter solenoid. The positive is correct but the negative goes to ground on the engine block and the other terminal on the solenoid goes to the starter.
Sam I Am Posted January 9 Posted January 9 Absolutely stunning. My sister has one, her first car when she turned 16. It needs total restoration now, but I am planning on building one like she wants hers to look. It isn't an XL, so I will need to change a few things.
mcs1056 Posted March 7 Posted March 7 I have to ask...was this a kit as a convertible, or did you chop and fabricate? If it was a 'vert kit, what company? I have a hardtop I'm planning to mod to make a copy of my actual car, but I need to re-hone my skills before I start it. Thanks in advance.
JS23U Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 I started with a built kit that I restored. It was an AMT 65 Ford Galaxie convertible annual kit, issued only in 1965. That model was available after 1965 only as a hardtop, which is mainly identical except the different body, a convertible boot and a clear uptop. Everything else is identical. So you could take a currently available hardtop issue and the only thing missing is the convertible boot.
JS23U Posted March 7 Author Posted March 7 This is what the box top of the kit looks like. Kit number 6115. But remember it is 60 years old.
Chris in Berwyn Posted March 8 Posted March 8 Very, very nice. I built one as well, but had to start with the hardtop - cut it off and used a Modelhaus convertible boot.
66belair Posted March 11 Posted March 11 Great build! I have several of the annual convertible kits. The 65 Galaxie is my favorite car as I own several 1:1s I’m in process of building a hardtop at the moment. Excellent work. 1
