TrucksMT Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Hello, I'm a new member from Montana. I'm a railroad carman by trade, artist and modeler in my personal time, among other things. I've probably been modeling since I was 8 or 10, so over 40 years. In that time my modeling interests have included a bit of everything in terms of kit styrene: auto, military air and armor, a few ships, real space, and a fair amount of sci-fi. I enjoy the odd scratchbuilding or kitbashing project from small subassembly detailing to complete from scratch models though admittedly I've done few on that scale. I will buy detailing parts when necessary but prefer to try to make parts myself and scrounge materials from other sources, and have dipped my toes into casting and custom decals at times. I probably enjoy the weathering process more than any other aspect of scale modeling which explains my penchant for armor. I'll admit I'm a pro at starting projects and terrible at finishing them. My current passion is heavy trucks and equipment which will allow me to combine my automotive and weathering interests and I'm able to infuse some real-world observations due to my occupation. I'm joining this site mainly for knowledge and since it keeps coming up in internet searches while searching for research material for my modeling subjects. Hopefully I too can contribute something here and there. Currently on my bench are an AMT Mack r685st and an AMT bulldozer, and many aircraft and space kis. Below are some samples of my past work. Thanks for having me. 1
BK9300 Posted December 28, 2024 Posted December 28, 2024 Realistic weathering escapes me! Looking forward to learning from your builds, and welcome. 1
TrucksMT Posted December 28, 2024 Author Posted December 28, 2024 Thank you! I look forward to learning much here myself!
yh70 Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Welcome to the forum Dan , outstanding weathering. 1
Kromolly Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Very accurately stated "ARTIST and modeler in my personal time". You obviously have the eye and skill of a fine artist. As others have said, your weathering is phenomenal. Welcome! 1
TrucksMT Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 Thank you all for the compliments on my weathering. I work hard at it. I think I tend to overdo it a bit but I just love the look!
johnyrotten Posted December 29, 2024 Posted December 29, 2024 Beautiful work, welcome to the forum. 1
TrucksMT Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 Thanks all! Hopefully I can apply these skills to my trucks and heavy equipment modeling. I feel I need to learn a little moderation and how to play with color modulation and faded paint techniques. I'll be posting about my current project(s) soon so please keep an eye out for that. Here are a couple more photos and I need to get some photos of my automotive builds too. Thanks again for the kind words!
TrucksMT Posted December 29, 2024 Author Posted December 29, 2024 The big red v12 is a 1/16 Soviet tank (T-34) engine. Also in this batch are a German Stug, a Soviet JS-3, and a little hot rod pickup I threw together years ago. I should update it...its badly inaccurate but fun nonetheless.
Rattlecan Dan Posted December 30, 2024 Posted December 30, 2024 Welcome Dan. You'll be in good company with some of the fine weathering technique modelers we have here on the forums. 1

I had originally painted it blue and silver like my own 77 FLH but later changed it to this bobber style bike. The Tamiya 1/6 kits are a joy. I'm actually not really big on Tamiya kits in general but all their motorcycle kits are great 1
